You are right about ruthlessly removing factors, right up until you they have to wear neon pink.... then the desire for quasi military look takes over (This is a joke fella's, just a joke...)
You may be joking but I think that's exactly how it is.

Yeah, but that's BS talk for the most part. If people were serious about it, everybody would buy orange or yellows hoods and fins and stuff like that. Look at how many instructor use black fins... black is pretty much the worst color for scuba gear in general.

If you wanna hear my honest opinion, forgett about it. Cool stuff is what sells and companies know that. Look at the car market... people that have a choice never buy stuff that makes sense, it's either because it's fun or an image reasons... another example are rebreathers, or motor bikes.

There is some argument, while visiting beautiful natural spaces, to not looking like a complete neon disco ball. Though, maybe not so much is places that could silt out and you lose each other. But in this case the neon only shows if you drop the thing. And that could even add to the cool. Man.. we go to such risking places, if we dropped this accidentally and started a silt out, we would want to find it fast and not muck around...

Black hides the funk. Dive enough and anything not black shows. Light colors stain and become dull and discolored. Neons lose their vibrant color pretty quick. And let's not forget color is absorbed at depth.

A yellow pocket may blend right into the sand depending on the depth, while black would provide contrast.

I think the act of trying to find it would muck things up worse.

Yeah, it's been done though. At least Scubapro and Zeagle used to have brighly colored weight pockets. Kelemvor posted a link with orange pockets too.
I don't think there is anything wrong with your logic but that's not how people buy stuff.

My stuff is always easy to find it usually has Duct tape holding something together ,amazing stuff Duct tape.
Right on. You should check out the duct tape on my jacket BC plating....And oh, that pocket weight buckle I said broke when I dropped it and found it. Fixed and good as old. But unless most of your dives are max 30', I don't recommend this method of repair.

I was debating about the only good color choice being yellow, but that would show my age.... Colors fade, the brighter they are the faster it happens. My wetsuit had spiffy red panels on it and now they are a rather muted grey-pink. Black doesn't fade as noticeably or as quickly as bright colors. I admit I would not want to look like a diving dandy with bright neon colors. The webbing on my old Dacor weight belt is also light red. The older BCDs were often made of yellow for higher visibility, especially on the surface.

True. Though that is with just natural, not dive, light, and does not address neon colors that absorb other wavelengths, including ultraviolet, and use that energy in their own color. The fading, I do not know, but I thought that was from sun, which the pocket inserts would not get much of.

Ok, but were those recreational? Edit: Was the market failure within the rec lines? Also, Zeagle still does, I listed it above, as does SeaSoft!!

It was a thought. Still seems to make more sense for tech (I really care about safety) stuff.

IMO the OP raises a valid point BUT funnilly enough not in the way they intended. Accidently dropping weight pockets is fairly common so neon pockets seems a cool idea to me.
