Anyway, I've never actually dove there but they say, especially the folks in the island, that it is shark country.
That's what the guide said. It would be alright though, he said they were vegetarians. :eyebrow:

I'm not sure what the depth is but naval charts should have that info as well as indicating all but the smallest wrecks with depth sounding I would expects.

A group of my friends also went diving at Batanes just a week ago. Spectacular coral formations aside from the fact that the top side scenery also captivating. Mountains and mountains of coral formations up to depths in excess of 35 meters. But sadly no pelagics cited

spent a lot of years going (early 90's) to and fro that island cuz of my dad's project. Restoration; actually more on the marble and paint jobs on the Pacific War Memorial and guns e.g. battery wearns, dissapearing guns etc.. I don't exactly remember the final epitaph on the tombstone in the memorial, however every time I read it it never fails to move me or make me pause for the men who died there.

Sleep, my sons. Your duty done...For freedoms light has come.
Sleep in the silent depths of the sea, or in your bed of hallowed sod.
Until you hear at dawn the low, clear reveille of God.

It never ceases to make me pause as well. A simple statement but very powerful. Pardon the quality of the pic, my SLR is old and the camera door is busted.

Last year I did the day trip as well, but I don't think I wanna do the overnight. I'm not a fan of the supernatural. I really enjoyed the day trip though.

Wow, I'd love to dive batanes let alone just go there just to see the wildlife. There's a grad student who's thesis is on the algal blooms occuring there. Showed us the current patterns that went all the way to Taiwan. Looked pretty intense as a prime place for eddy formation (sign of good coral recruitment). Maybe all the pelagics just went with the current all the way to Taiwan...

Gosh, I haven't even been to Bataan, what a loser haha.
bataan, batanes, batangas... they all sound the same naman - isipin mo nalang, you've been to one, you've been to all...

@chip: thanks for posting the pic, remembered when i was there a few years back...just awakens my nationalistic thing

btw, has any of you guys tried visiting Camp O'Donnell (Tarlac) lately? We already have like this black marble wall inscribed with the names of all those who perished during the Death March.
