This quote came from the PADI Bashers thread. However after reading it, I had a small epiphany.
No truer words have ever been typed and I confess that have been guilty of this stupidity and arrogance as well.
If ScubaBoard has taught me anything, it is that there is always some SOB that thinks he/she knows more than you. Has been to greater depths, can make their gas last for hours, they need no lead and have been diving longer than Jacque Cousteau. In addition, if you dont have a Drysuit, wear three computers, use a Halcyon BP/W and a set of Salvo lights, your going to get bent or die. These and other seemingly circular arguments all seem to fall into the My dad can beat up your dad., round file of adolescent crap.
Now, I dive just to have fun! Now that Im older and a touch wiser, I regret not figuring this out years ago. All those wasted dives, the hundreds of dives just for the money, not much fun.
Now, with my lovely bride, we are looking forward to even the simplest of dives at Catalina staring at the kelp forests and just playing around with the curious Garibaldi. We are waiting impatiently to dive the clear warm waters of Kona this June.
Dive Safe! Have fun! Continue to learn and practice but dont waste time in hand wringing over issues that have little importance in your life.
Dave
OTOH, Dont get me started of virtues of Lie Neilson!
TSandM:Quotation from John Cronin's essay on the beginning of PADI, in The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving, p 1-53 ... "The reason divers then were such purists is that they put up with so much BS to get there. ":
