How was your diving in 2024?

I'm just thrilled to be back diving after an accident at a trampoline park last April dislocated and fractured a couple of cervical vertebrae in my neck. I've worked hard to get back to 100% and regain all of the strength that I'd lost. So just the fact that I am back enjoying the diving South Florida has to offer is a huge blessing!

How many dives?

I got in 36 dives in 2024, about a dozen below my typical yearly average. That was due to a number of factors:
  • missing 2 months following cervical spine fusion surgery in April,
  • missing 1 month due to Hurricane Milton in Oct and
  • missing a number of planned dives in Nov-Dec due to unusually bad weather conditions on my planned diving weekends.
Did you have an extra special dive? Saw something? A destination, or buddy?

Saw both a sea horse and a manatee on the same dive at Blue Heron Bridge last month. That was super cool!

Any courses?

Nope.

Learn something new?

Don't attempt a back flip off of the high platform at Sky Zone. At 60, I am way past the days of being able to pull that off without injury!

Gave up an old (diving related) habit?

Nothing I can think of. Hopefully I've dropped the worst of my bad scuba habits years ago.

What are you looking forward to in 2025?

A 4-day trip with 10 planned dives in Key Largo in June.

New equipment?

Nope, I have everything I need, and multiples of all of the critical equipment.

Other?

My goal for 2025 is to not hit my insurance deductible!! After a bike accident in 2023 resulted a broken clavicle and the accident and surgery mentioned above in 2024, I will be focusing on a calmer year medical-wise in 2025!!

Did half my normal with just over 100 dives.

Bali Bohol Maldives in 2024.

2025 Planning a trip in Feberuary not decided Bali Lembongan or Bohol Leyte around 30 dives. Going to Maldives again in May 30 Dives in Fuvumala then 15 or more dives on Dhangeti. Do some more dives in July back in Bali perhaps and another dive trip in October.
Then off to Sydney in December to visit my son might do some dives there as well. Might do 120 - 150 dives all told.

  1. My diving was amazing! Lots of new experiences as well as visiting places I have been before.
  2. 91 dives not counting the pool training dives.
  3. Went to Truk Lagoon for an incredible New Year gift!
  4. Nothing new for me. This year though.... yup!
  5. Always learn something new.
  6. I cut back on the after dive libations.
  7. Roatan in two weeks, Fiji and the Maldives!!!!
  8. Nope. Nothing new. Can't afford it! Too many trips!
  9. Looking forward to diving with friends and bringing some new people into the fold. I have a few at work that need refresher training and our MI for the shop just retired from Law Enforcement. Now he has time to spare.

2..... two freaking dives in 2024..... "Broke Up" with my dive buddy as we diverged in values. Nobody around to dive with, and life really got in the way with family issues...

 cheers that 2025 is a better diving year for you!

1. Had some incredible dives in 2024. Finally saw so big fish as I was quite unlucky in that regard the last 2 years
2. 205
3. Did 2 Liveaboards in the red sea (north & deep south) and had some amazing dives. Doing the arches on Thomas Reef and Elphinstone was quite special to me.
4. Finished my Divemaster which I started in 2023, did Deco50 & Deco60
5. Learned a lot in my courses and always repeat my learning with our training dives every other tuesday
6. no
7. getting rebreather trained in march and doing some scuba trips somewhere different then egypt (probably indonesia)
8. Added some regs to my collection

:sadness:

  • How many dives?
    • 6.
    • 2024 was a rough year for me. My wife had surgery, and I put off my rotator cuff surgery until she'd recovered sufficiently; the last couple of months waiting were difficult/painful as it was my right shoulder - and I'm right handed. Ended up having work done end of March, and then went through the usual rehab which took a while.
  • Did you have an extra special dive? Saw something? A destination, or buddy?
    • So - The six dives I did make were down in Jupiter Fl in August with my brother. Ran into some rough weather and three boat days were cancelled. Good news was that @Scuba_Jenny had room in her schedule - and guided us on a muck dive at Blue Heron Bridge. That whole trip was special.
  • Learn something new?
    • Buoyancy control on a shallow dive is more difficult than at depth.
    • Current(s) are stronger in Jupiter than in Roatan
  • Gave up an old (diving related) habit?
    • Nope
  • What are you looking forward to in 2025?
    • February - West Palm Beach - Booked
    • April - Roatan - Booked
    • June/July ?
  • New Equipment?
    • Yeah - a lot
      • I had a dive computer and a regulator, gifts from my brother
      • My wife bought me a BC for Christmas 2023
      • I bought the rest of the basic gear throughout the year.

ETA - Forgot the regulator my brother gave me. Sitting in my office, looked over at the chair it's sitting on. duh.

2024 was a pretty good year for me. I got in 94 dives, about 20 less than my recent average. This was mostly due to missing a couple of months following a medical procedure in March.

I made my 2nd trip to the Revillagigedos on the Nautilus Explorer. The mantas, dolphins, and sharks were amazing. My wife and I made our 11th trip to Bonaire. This was a very relaxing visit, I love diving with my wife. I was certified for Avelo at the end of 2023 and got in 6 more independent fun dives on this trip. I made 5 trips down to our home in Florida and enjoyed the diving in Boynton Beach, Palm Beach, and Jupiter.

Like @Divin'Papaw I hope to remain perfectly healthy for 2025. I turn 71 later this month. I'm hoping to finally make 2500 dives, just 67 more to go. It will only have taken about 28 years :)

The best of diving to everyone for this new year

  9. Other?

1. I was able to do a lot of diving this past year, despite only a few dives from Mid Sept - November because of weather. Couple hurricanes, though not directly impacted those winds are hundreds of miles wide made for nasty conditions.

2. 114 total dives, a new yearly record for me.

3. New to me was dive trip to Bonaire with the SB Invasion (if you've never been on an Invasion, it's worth it!!!). OMG! I LOVED Bonaire. Looking forward to getting back there.

4. Started an AAUS diving course. Plan is to get that finished up soon. I took it for the academics, but hope to be able to utilize it at some point in the future.

5. AAUS seems to be mostly a review of my DM course so far. As for learning something new... I've become more aware of subtle surface conditions when assessing whether it's a good option to dive or thumb it and get a drink. ;) yeah, that was fun...

6. Can't think of anything right now.. and am wondering why I even posed the question. Like, why did that pop into my head?

7. Have a trip to Coz planned. I look forward to finishing the AAUS course.

8. No new equipment. But do have a new-to-me vehicle that is much better at hauling dive gear, so I guess that counts.

9. Looking forward to another good year of diving!
Diving was great ! Complete my sdi solo training. 40 solo dive from may to november. Could not wait to start again !
