New Reg help

I am fairly new to diving and live in the North Eastern United States. I am looking to purchase my first reg and was wondering what input people had as to what would be best for the cooler water temps up here. I was thinking about something in the neigborhood of $400 - $500. Any brand suggestions?

you can get an apeks atx50 with a ds4 first stage for a little more than $300 when buying over the internet from dealers in europe. very good in cold water.
