MR-12 III is a great reg, if you don't buy it, may I have first dibs?

...knowone - you really should not post UI/WI. Seriously, pal... It is embarrassing.

Knowone's posts are often a combination of haiku and, ohhh, the odd Druid incantation... but look closely enough, and you'll find the inevitable pearl of wisdom therein....

He was recommending obtaining a repair manual from "frogkick" (google is your friend here):

http://www.frogkick.dk/manuals/

A quick trip down the rabbit hole (follow the link, lad) will produce repair manuals for Mares regs.

Best wishes.

After you have completed your NASA course on deciphering personal diaries, tap frogkick into your computer machine and you may learn lots of relatively accurate diving things.

WTF difference is there between ebay and a yard sale other than you can't touch WTF you are buying.

i got a good laugh out of this one !!

Yard sale and CL are definately the way to go for gear. I picked up a USDiver /conshelf SE2 1st, 2nd, octo with depth and pressure gauge yesterday for $25. Looks new and breaths fine on the tanks. I am taking it in tomorrow to have it serviced and look forward to using it on my pony tank.

I don't want to throw too much water on your parade here, but I'm 90% certain that Mares has decided to no longer support the MR12 first stage. I'm 100% sure they no longer support the III second stage. I'd think long and hard before I bought either reg.

While they're both good stages, if one can't get parts for them, eventually they'll be nothing more than colorful paperweights.

For $20 ... I'll take 'em.

Unfortunately this does not surprise me.

Why do they stop supporting these older regs? Fortunately, parts such as seats should be no problem. Even the second stage front cover I mentioned earlier can be replaced by the current one with a small modification.

There is a big difference in "not supporting" them and parts not being available. The parts for my 60's Voit/AMF Titan II which are the origins of the MR-12 series have long since been "not supported". What that actually means is there are no parts kits from Mares (who took over Voit/AMF). However, the parts are still used in current Mares regs, you just have to know which ones to pick and choose from. I just restored a Titan II with all new internals, first and second stage. Really nice breathing reg I might add.

And I willl give you $25 and pay to ship. :)

Have you hooked it up to a tank to see if it works? Thats what I would do. If it looks good and it breaths good I would put the money in to get it rebuilt. The regulator I did my first 30 dives on is probably 20 years old, and there was nothing wrong with it, I just got an itch and "upgraded".
