Hey beck,

for a while. I'm at school right now... I missed out a lot of good threads but here are some:

PG overview:

I'll look for others later.

So I hear it's cold in Canada. Do you live in an igloo? Are you rich enough to own a snowmobile or do you just use a dogsled? I think the dog sled is better since it saves on gas. But then you spend on dog food.

Chip,
You always remind me of my aunt when you do that. Growing up in the desert, she'd ask questions like: How well does the fort hold up against the Indian attacks? How many rattlesnakes live in the backyard? Is there a place at school for you to tie up your horse? Does the military escort you in case of Indian attack?

Does anyone actually have any answers for the OP's question........just wondering b/c I am headed to PG as well........not trying to be smart ; )

Hi. I'm a brand new open water diver and planning on diving Puerto Galera next month (late Feb.). I'm wondering if there are better clubs to go with over there (I've been looking at Action Divers) or any advice you may have! Know of an inexpensive resort that will keep the rest of the family happy while I'm out diving? Also, what suit will keep me warm enough (I'm Canadian, but hate being cold, eh) and enjoying the experience. Thank you!

I'm returning to spend most of Feb there at Asia Divers/El Galleon with their tech shop Tech Asia. The fact that I am returning to the same people when there are over 30 others says something. For family activities look at the El Galleon website.
Remember that you are going to a small diving village in a reasonably remote part of a developing country so don't expect Western facilities.
Take a 5mm and a hood.

No, I was only just OK in October/November in a 3mm and Feb will definitely be colder.
Also doing up to 4 dives a day, day after day, has a cumulative effect. This is why diveguides wear so much insulation.
In addition I will be doing some long dives, some deep dives and some long, deep dives. Being cold increases your chance of DCI as it changes your blood circulation patterns. Sitting on a deco stop at the end of a tech dive I reckon even a 5mm won't be that warm.
It is interesting that the dive shop at Asia Divers in PG sells the excellent Waterproof 5mms.

Give the guys at Sabang Inn an email. Tell Ralf or Gunter that I sent you as a referral. Go to www.sabang-inn.com. Just tell them BABYDAMULAG sent you.....they will hook you up. It is a nice, quiet, and well equipped place. No tech diving there but all the rec you can handle!

A friend just sent me a picture of me in the Point bar last September - God, it was terrible... (I'm the one in the background by the way...eyebrow )

Cheers,
