Don't do it. Save yourself before it is too late.

WHY would you want to "embrace" the "DIR style?" Towards what end?

i got to dive with the gear this weekend and others and loved it

That's wonderful --Good for You!

One of my classmates in GUE-Fundamentals of Better Diving Class this past August, just graduated from High School, got accepted to the University of Florida, and got a job at Extreme Exposure in the heart of cave country.

Hope you have similar opportunities, career or avocation wise :) !

Ok, but the gear is a minor part of it. It's the commitment to skills, safety and team diving that sets it apart from most diving. It takes most people (including me) a while to get past all the noise about gear configuration and realise this.

Look, all I did was put the kid in a backplate and long hose with a bungied back-up. We had a brief talk about gas management, hand signals and team responsibilities. Then we dove. I answered his questions best as I could. However since I am not a DIR diver (I am not, I am not, and I am not) there is no way I can be held responsible for this.

Can you be a DIR diver without DIR training?
Does accepting the DIR style make you a DIR diver?
Does a long hose make you a DIR diver?
Do DIR divers have a monopoply on gas management?

Does accepting the DIR style make you a DIR diver?
Does accepting what you think is DIR style, but in fact only covers the basics and might even be wrong,...make you a DIR diver?
