Guidos is high on the list, but maybe something different. I went to a place a couple blocks off the waterline that you enter from the front, walk through the indoor seating area to a courtyard. Great seafood platter! Cant for the life of me remember where it was or the name of the place. Just a couple blocks at the most from the Yukatech shop.

Sounds like La Veranda to me, too, but it's in the first block from the water and north of the Plaza, and not far from the Cinco Soles shop. I really like that place; it's a bit classier than most of the Coz eateries, not that there is anything at all wrong with the others, but it's romantic, with a fountain and a gazebo, soft lights and music.

On of my favorites is Los Utates, a few blocks back from the ferry terminal area.

Try the pozole, mmmm.

Casa Mission... The mission house I believe was a short cab ride but it was the best food and service we had in 10 trips to Coz and Mex. The lobster presentation was amazing. And.... It was Caribbean lobster... Not frozen maine lobster. Dont be afraid to eat local either. Some of the food can be amazing... For example in the food fair of the big shopping mall in Cancun we had tacos made with fresh pork chops, lime and sea salt..4 bucks for 2 of us.. Best we had anywhere....

Does anyone know if the little shack across from the fire station by Villas El Caracol is still there serving flat chicken?

Why would any Cozumel restaurant serve Maine lobster?

Why would anybody go to a McDonalds or a Pizza Hut while on holiday in Coz??

Well, they get enough business to stay open, I guess. Not from me, though; I don't even go to those places in the States. But I really doubt that the restaurants on Cozumel import lobsters from Maine.

Ummmm, perhaps because there are full time residents of Cozumel who enjoy and pack the places??? I don't happen to be one of them, but sometimes people need to realize that while tourism is our bread and butter...not EVERYTHING exists for the tourists alone. Locals like to eat in town and on the waterfront too and deserve and crave these places. McDonalds and Pizza Hut exist in every major city in the world from Los Angeles to Rome to Tokyo and from Anchorage to Buenos Aires, etc. and even some not so major cities I've been to, why should Cozumel be any different. Walk in there on your next visit and check out the local to tourist ratio...you'll be pleasantly surprised to see mostly locals.

I was thinking the same thing Gordon. Every restaurant in Cozumel that serves lobster serves local lobster...not imported frozen Maine lobster. I'm not sure where that came from. I can also guarantee that better service and food can be found at at least a dozen other restaurants for the same or better prices. Of course YMMV

Why? Easy

1)Economics
2)Availability
3)Fishing Season
4)Hurricanes
5) Any or all of the above... You pick...

And the hamburgers at the McDonalds are also made with the famous Argentinian beef. They are fantastic.

I have had 2 experiences in 2 years where we have been served frozen imported lobster while in Mexico. Once in cozumel, and I forget the name so i dont want to make a mistake by mentioning it, and once at the (ironically) "Puerto Madero Buenos Aires" restaurant at Marina Barracuda in Cancun. We had high hopes for this supposed Argentinian Steak House and Fish Market, and the ONLY fresh fish on the menu was the grouper. I know, we asked the Maitre'd and were shown the kitchen and selection.

Unless of course the Caribbean Lobster now comes with claws...
