jjwdiver- It was fun diving thispast weekend in 45 degree water. I bet you can't wait for Cozumel.

La Veranda is a block from the ocean. CFC and I celebrated our 20th anniversary there.
It is romantic and the food is good. I don't remember the the prices. I am sure your wife will like it. Try the "La Mision" wint he mini zoo in it. We used to walk by in on the way to the "Villas". It is now a restaurant.

I'm headed to Coz Jan 9-16 with my wife and another couple. We want to go out for our anniversary, and are looking for a place off the beaten path (so to speak). Criteria: Excellent food, great atmosphere, no real expensive. Island food...I dont need steak, although a seafood dish would be nice. Any suggestions?

Staying at Caribe Blu & diving with Blue Angel...cant hardly wait!

La Mission on 30th. is what you are looking for. I think it is called La Parilla now.Food is wonderful. It is where the locals , particularly divers, go for dinner. Nothing fancy and no AC. Grilled Grouper platter was 80 pesos last July when I was there and it is a lot to eat and very good. Big Boy Mexican Platter, more than I can eat was also 80 pesos IIRC. But, the best comes last, chocolate ice cream that is better than ANY you have ever eaten before.

I forgot to warn you, there are 3 La Mission restaurants on Cozumel. BE SURE you ask for the one on 30th! The other 2 ARE NOT what you are looking for, IMO.

Guidos is high on the list, but maybe something different. I went to a place a couple blocks off the waterline that you enter from the front, walk through the indoor seating area to a courtyard. Great seafood platter! Cant for the life of me remember where it was or the name of the place. Just a couple blocks at the most from the Yukatech shop.

Was it El Moreno? or Sonora Grill?

Catherine was right...Guido's is excellent, great atmosphere...a little pricey for a local's budget, but it is a special treat to go there on any occasion.

I love Le Chef, but not really a romantic atmosphere...yet!

La Cocay is another great place....great wine list, courtyard or indoor seating.

anybody ever make a fuss about those animals?

just curious.

Does Mexico have a PETA chapter?

hope to see pictures....

We don't...but we have the Humane Society. There have been many isues in the past with the animals. It is a beautiful place, but I won't patronize the establishment.

Also, thinking more about it, La Veranda is probably to most romantic atmosphere on the island, and honestly not overpriced in my opinion.

Try Costa Brava! it's about 2 blocks off the main drag not far from the cruise ship terminals and shopping area. It's quaint, casual and relatively inexpensive. They have the biggest margaritas there too! Good place for lunch or dinner.

Costa Brava is right around the corner from Casa Mexicana hotel - towards the International shopping area thingie.

We ate there several times and it was good. They made us fresh salsa when we didn't want the "standard" stuff they had one time. Not romantic, but a good place to go with friends, I think.

Also check out Casa Mission - it it gorgeous.

We'll see you at Caribe Blu - we're there over your dates too...I'll be the crazy lady herding cats as I prepare for my wedding on the 11th!

Ahhh...Now I have an idea of whose wedding party we yanks will be crashing for that week. Jeanie told us about the group coming and we were lucky to get one of the 4 rooms available.

If you can pull yourself away, I'd love to sit at the restaurant above the dive shop and talk UW Photography...pick your brain in trade for lunch?

Thanks for all the ideas for restaurants. Eelpout, I loaded a few more pics of our diving. Thanks for the directions...now it rings a bell.

I think the only PITA they have in Coz is in bread form. lol!

I'm thinking it was El Moreno. That seems to ring a bell in my mind.
Thanks Christi

Sounds good - will sure try. I'm hoping things won't be too insane!

I'm a Yank, too...as are many of our guests!

BTW - I need another two rooms for more guests who have decided to come...if you hear of anyone willing to stay at Villa Blanca or who wants to cancel, let me know, as I'd like to have all our wedding guests at the same hotel!
