Need an inexpensive dive computer to backup my AI consoles

UPDATE: I actually found a better deal on a brand new Genesis ReAct Pro - $199 w/free shipping from scuba.com. I cancelled the LeisurePro order because they couldn't tell me if it was the old version or the new version. I have a new one, and the old one uses a different interface cable. I now have two identical computers.

@tcpip95 If I am reading your post correctly, the one on Scuba.com is the new version? That is good to know. I did notice a difference in the part number on the download cable between Scuba.com and LP, and sent an email today to Sherwood to get clarification. Thank you.

Yes. You can tell the differences based on the color of the faceplate. The WHITE faceplate (part number 3919) is the newer model, and uses the GDK400 cable (I haven't confirmed this is the cable, as there are two different cables: 3900DR for the old, and GDK400 for the new). The older one has the BLACK faceplate (part number 3910).

Be aware that Aeris no longer exists so there is no after-sales support. Pelagic (the computer division associated with Oceanic) was sold to AquaLung which now supplies such computers only with the Pelagic Z+ algorithm. I believe Huish will not be marketing Oceanic computers - it markets Suunto (apart from in Europe) and it appears to have discontinued Liquivision. Aeris and Oceanic computers offered for sale will be almost certainly old stock. It will be difficult to find a new computer with a Pelagic DESAT algorithm now.

I had not heard that Huish may discontinue Oceanic computers, do you have reliable information to the contrary? Since Huish purchased Oceanic and Hollis, they have supplied service, from personal experience, very good service for Oceanic. The Aeris brand was discontinued by American Underwater Products well before the Huish purchase.

Regarding DSAT, all Oceanic computers run dual algorithm and Sherwood and Genesis run DSAT. Are you implying that Pelagic Pressure Systems, under Aqua Lung, will discontinue supplying these computers or that Huish may just discontinue marketing Oceanic?

Hi John, yeah I think you're spot on with this post. For me, we're simply recreational divers. Since I already had one, it made sense for me to spend $200 and get the same make/model. That way the learning curve for my wife will be much easier, since we'll bothe be using the same kit, and I'll be able to download both dive computers using the same software & cabling. At some point in the future we will probably switch over to something else. For now, this will meet our needs.
