I replaced my old Mares Quad with a Shearwater Peregrine AI. I love my Shearwater; but the Mares Quad buttons were a lot easier to work with a set of thick gloves- they are huge and stuck in all 4 corners. If buttons were my only concern I’d still be using the Quad.

That’s a great argument that didn’t cross my mind at all till now — unless it’s a tech dive that involves tank/mix/set-point switch (not what OP wants) buttons should be redundant (ok the rare occasion of wanting to switch to compass full view for nav practice .. but rare)

OP, look for best UI, then best buttons — ultimately both

Oceanic Veo 4.0.

But it's a basic computer that's not comparable to a Shearwater or even a Mares Quad.

The Suunto had what i needed to know on screen but only after i programmed it in, which actually was painful in bare fingers and not happening in gloves.
Suunto also had battery changing problems.
