Careful on this one, I've been doing some checking for myself with some VERY experienced cave / wreck divers in this area. One of the foremost of these sent me the following after I mentioned the Salvo.
"Lights? Stay with Halcyon. There's cheaper initial purchases like Salvo, but that guy has law suits against him ( for theft from Halcyon when he set up ) and will wind up getting jailed sooner or later and their goes the after sales service. Enough guys got the Halcyon lights that spares are rarely an issue now and we have regional service agents that can do maintenance."
A lot of the PPDers would recognise his name if I put it in, he is a Halcyon stockist (not exclusive though), but I've known him for 10 years+ now and would trust his advice. For example, in the past, he recommended a me buy a particlar Nitrox computer from my LDS in HK because he couldn't get that same model. This when he WAS stocking a competitor's model, but felt it wasn't as good.
OTOH, if much of the Salvo has been copied from Halcyon, then Halcyon spares might fit - who knows?

yeah im pretty up to date with the B.M. lawsuit. in fact B.M. has modified his lights and they are really much better than the 'H' brand. this is a very old topic and honestly i dont know whats true and not with all the mudslinging. i do know for a fact that the salvo lights are of a much betterv construction and are more robust than the h's. try slamming an h lighthead on the bench and see what happens? anyway sorry for the highjack.

Larry, yes I've been watching this Halcyon/ Barry Miller soap opera here and over on The Deco Stop. Yes I'm rolling the dice here with a good chunk of lunch money and might find myself with a HID with no after product service if Barry is shut down, etc... Call me crazy, but I'm convinced on the quality of his product from what I 've read on various dive forums here, TDS, and even in the UK. guess we'll know in a few weeks possibly (end of Jan?)...
