Here is some more information I got about the Ft. Pickens Shuttle:

The owners name is Hal, for a ride out to the jetties call (850) 393-0614 (reservations are encouraged)

You can catch the shuttle on the hour starting at the gate 8:00AM to 4:00 PM going into Ft. Pickens. (This is not a boat ride it is an extra large ATV that quickly gets you out there).

Last shuttle in at 4:00PM

Last shuttle out at 5:00PM

Shuttle drop off and pick up at following locations:

Campground A
Battery 234 on gulf pier
Fishing pier
Dive jetties
The Fort

Round trip for diver and gear $25.00
Round trip for adult (non-diver) $15.00
Round trip for children 8-12 (with parents) $10.00

He has worked out a deal with a local restaurant for lunches:
You can call Beach Buns and Dawgs ahead of time for bagged lunches for your trip. They have BBQ, Italian sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, snacks, and drinks at (850) 393-0586

Sounds like a pretty good deal :cool2:

Cool!!! Thanks so much for the info. I have camped there ever year since I was little until the hurricane. I've missed it so much. I've got to plan a trip down there soon.

Thanks for the info Walt. It looks like we have several shore dives shaping up for us to enjoy. :)

I'd love to check them out... We had a friend on base that wanted to try them out so badly that he was willing to rent a boat from the base to get to them..... The rest of us weren't so thrilled at the idea of spending Charter boat prices to simply motor across the inlet from the base.

A dive and a Camping trip would be NICE.

I know it's a ways, but is there a good place you can launch a kayak from and paddle/peddle (I have a Hobie Kayak with the Mirage drive) out there?

If I remember correctly, its 8-9 miles (by boat) from the Navy launch to Ft. Pickens Jetties. It may be less from the end of the road, XRay could give a better guess than I, as he launches from a different location.

Is it legal to have a campfire/grill on the beach at Pickens?

Sounds like a good idea. Lets put something together before it gets to cold.

We all need to schedule a get together at the jetties, it would be a good time.

What weekend? I will be out of town for the next two weekends. I'm game for the weekend of the 17 to the 19th or 31st to the 2nd.

Any takers? I have gear enough for two others who might not have sleeping bags or a tent. I also have cooking gear and of course.. my dive gear! :) oh and my camera! :D cheeeeese!!!
