okey.... :(

I just got a new wetsuit and fins and i wanted to dive where there was people around so that i wouldn't be so freaked out.. I'm not used to these waters, I'm only here for a couple more days, and I'm living out of my car. I dove today a bit in breakwater by myself after getting my gear and i got so freaked out by the giant kelp, magnified through the mask and stuff. woulda felt a lot better with people diving around me.

i guess i'll just dive by myself the next couple of days.

Ugh, I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure that a bunch of divers are really not going to be in a good position to provide you with any kind of support/comfort. The group here is really super nice (and I'm sure those who are sticking around before or after the dive would love to chat it up), it's just not a really optimal solution.

If you really would like to dive in the vicinity of others for the sense of security, maybe the best thing is to show up at Breakwater on Saturday and just stay where you can see one of the numerous classes that's always being taught there on weekends. You certainly don't want to get in the way, and their attentions will probably be focused on whatever tasks they're learning, but at least it won't be just you and the wild blue yonder. I don't know how instructors usually take that, there are several on here and I'm sure they'll pipe in if what I suggest isn't kosher.

I'm diving the Sanctuary so I will not be any assistance unfortunately this Saturday. You seem like a really nice person that just wants a little comfort zone for your snorkeling.

Sometimes you find divers that are practicing their snorkeling and you can join them. They will be found without their BC equipment, just a weightbelt, fins, Snorkel and Mask.

On a really clear day like what we have been having freediving will be neat for you to see what's below the water.

You should try free diving at the breakwater this Saturday, Its pretty common to see people snorkeling out there on weekends. Divers don't make good freedive buddies. Divers are typically oriented facing downward and you would be well out of their field of vision.

Divers also are ~40 ft. or deeper and cannot always ascend to the surface quickly in the event you needed help, assuming they could even see you which in Monterey is unlikely.

Sorry for the bad news. I wish we could help you, but honestly your best bet is to find another free diver. Like I said, they are around the breakwater pretty often.
