Heading to the middle keys of FL. Everyone writes about Largo or Key West -- what about the Middle Keys? Any suggestions for dive site and/or operators? Anyone ever dive with Tilden's? Thanks

http://www.floridakeys.com/marathon/diving/index.htm has some general info on Marathon diving, and also has links to charters.

If you like small boats, Captain Banny, http://www.thefloridakeys.com/captbanny/ is a good guy to hook up with. Max of 4 divers. His boat is small, though, and not suitable when the weather is marginal. Runs out of the SeaHorse Motel, but I recommend other accomodations since the SeaHorse is pretty rundown and just as expensive as much nice motels.
His website also has more info on the dive sites.

Abyss Dive Center, http://www.abyssdive.com/ , has a bigger boat and took me out in weather conditions where nobody else was running ("once we leave the dock, the charter fee is ours whether or not you get in the water").

If you are looking for spots other than Key West and Key Largo, you should check out Looe Key -- about 20 miles E of Key West.

is a highly respected operator and his website has info on Looe Key and the A. Busch wreck.

Hook with the The Diving Site in Marathon and dive the Thunderbolt. A fantastic wreck in 120 feet of water. The deck is around 100 feet.

Go with Reef-Divers in Cudjoe Key and dive the Busch. Another fine wreck in 105 feet of water.

Decompress on Sombero key and Looe key. Both very nice reefs with lots of photo ops.

Both of the operators mentioned do not take snorkelers. Many of the dive boats are cattle style and most of the riders are snorklers.
