Hey L:

Emily suffers from motion sickness. She handles it really well, but she does have to wear the scopolomine patch for anything out of the bathtub (the problem runs in her family). We both thought it was too much to ask of her to wear the patch for 16 days, especially on a trip that will have many nights of being under way.

Apparently I will have a unknown female roommate, in the "budget cabin" which I dislike. But that's all they had available.

- Bill

One of these days I'd like to go on this trip, but not sharing with unknown female roommate.

I booked a single male sharing cabin on a trip and I was the first to show up. When the other person sharing the cabin showed up turns out it was a female of Russian citizenship. I told the CD I was OK with sharing with a female, as long as she didn't murder me in my sleep, since US and Russian relations are tenuous.
She wasn't OK with sharing with a male. (If I was a woman I might use a play like this when you book, say your ok with other sex booking then say not when you show up.)
So in the end the CD offered me his cabin which the only difference only had a sink, no bathroom/shower. I told the CD my 50 year old bladder would inconvienece me with a few trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and he hinted at the sink. I took the hint, and in exchange for the inconvienece got free nitrox for the trip, and my own cabin which was further from the engine room and in result quieter.

GOOD LORD You guys are scaring the beejesus out of me! First its snakes, then it's the Russians, then peeing in the sink,...what's next, no beer?

- Bill
Between dirtfarmers post and Bill's reply, I might just join Emily in Bali. Of course my wife with join us and she will have a dive guide that will be paid with a nice gin and tonic during the sunset.

Oh great! I'll be stuck getting seasick on a crossing trip with no toilet, an ugly Russian roommate, getting bit by snakes, and no beer -- and you'll be making fun with my wife. Great.

I've been on some sucky LOBs, but the diving was the only thing important. If you have a safe dive program on good dive sites, enough palatable food, a dry bunk, a working head, and cold Bintangs, everything else is just an inconvenience.
