Lahaina Maui Reposted in this forum, Sorry for the double post.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are looking to spend 5 days in Lahaina Maui to dive and tour. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel on the beach that is less than 200/night? Also, we would like a dive op that goes to the best sites.

We would also maybe do 5 more days on Kona, so please share your experiences for Kona accomodations and dive ops as well.

Thanks!

You might try the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Not real fancy but right on Kaanapali Beach, very close to Black Rock. Probably the most reasonable price on Kaanapali.

Dont miss out on the Maui Ocean Center. Awsome shark dive in the tank and the back wall of Molokini is world class. Enjoy your visit. Aloha

I really like Lahaina Shores condos! Everything in Lahaina walkable but it is at a quiet end of the "waterfront" street. It is about 120.00, newer construction, pool, kitchens, views of the beach. Try David Paul's, pricey, but hit them for drinks and appetizers and you will be happy!

Kaanapali Beach Hotel may be one of the older ones, but they have one of the "happiest" staff I've come across - something to consider - and you walk to blackrock for some nice night diving.

Lots of condos further north that will be under $200 as well - Napili Shores is right on Napili Bay and close to most of the good sites on this side of the island.

Other option is to stay in Kihei - Most boats going to Molokini leave from Kihei, but if wanting to dive cathedrals or other sites on Lanai, they leave primarily from Lahaina. There's good shore diving in both places though.

Aloha, Tim

P.S. Feel free to PM me if you have questions about sites in the Lahaina area - can't help much with hotels though ...

Thanks, I am checking out the accomodations noted. Who is the best dive op? We would like to go to Molikini and Lanai as well as any good local Maui dives.

B&B, Mike Sevryns, & Ed Robinsons for Molokini ... Extended horizons for Lanai trips.

But you'll be hard pressed to find a "bad" op over here.

I just spent nine days in Kona had a great experience at a house in Kealakekua bay try the www.alohahouse.com usually full but you never know
Stay away from Bali Kai resort. Over priced poorly maintained over glorified excuse for a resort.
Snorkel Bob's was rude and overpriced
Millers snorkel in the Bali Kai was very nice better priced
Kona Boys rock if your into shore dives or doing your own thing
Must eat at Huggos its the BEST
If your looking to be litteraly surrounded by people stay on Alli'i drive
If your looking to be alone try for a house theres alot going on on Alli'i drive
Dont miss the out door market on the weekends
Hope your visit is fantastic

For diving in Kona, I recommend Jack's Diving Locker www.jacksdivinglocker.com Or Big Island Divers www.bigislanddivers.com. They both have fast, steady boats, are well organized, and have some of the nicest DM's in all of Kona. I would recommend giving both of them a visit and deciding which one works best for you (Jack's Diving Locker was booked up five days in advance, Big Island Divers didn't seem to have that problem). When I was in Kona, I stayed in a vacation rental, can't recall the name at the moment. The condo was adequate, but wasn't all that clean, they had a terrible roach problem when I stayed there, wouldn't recommend it. It might be a safer bet to go for a hotel instead.

We booked a Studio Condo at Lahaina Shores Maui directly from one of the owners. It was a great deal and unit is remodeled. Now we just need a dive op. Maybe one that does not cater to cruise ships. Eatery suggestions are welcome as well.

We are going March 10-18. Anyone else?
