I guess that's relative to how fast the leak is and how long the dive will be. Some people have low tolerance for that sort of thing. I dove for a long time with a mask I cleared every 5 minutes or so that did not have a valve. It did have a worn and warped skirt.

That almost qualifies as a feature.

People with a low tolerance for mask leakage need more practice clearing. 8-)

I bought one with the valve because it fit well, and on dives without current, it never leaks. However, on a dive with a lot of current, I've been known to keep my thumb over the valve to keep my mask from flooding. My purge valve will be getting a dose of aqua seal before I head back to Mexico.

No valve. It's as useful as a p-valve in a wetsuit.

I've actually considered putting a pee valve in my wetsuit.

The suit fits really close and I've never been able to flush it properly during the dive, although I did manage to inflate it once while trying an upside down shoot-air-into-the neck manuver that supposedly flushes it out, but instead turned me into a human lift bag.

Too funny, i'll have to remember this for a friend who refuses to pee in his wetsuit....

in that case, I'll rephrase:

No valve. It's less useful than a p-valve in a wetsuit :)

All the experts agree that a purge valve is bad and may kill you. I've only used purge valve masks for 30 years, so have limited experience but I don't buy anything without the valve. Tusa Imprex Hyperdry is my favorite and current certainly doesn't make their purge valves leak.

With the different varieties of low volume masks available, a mask with a purge valve is not recommended. And these masks usually have a higher volume. Without a purge and right technique a mask full of water can be cleared in 1-2 seconds.
