i have done the toothpaste when I first got the mask, and used mask defog prior to last dive and it still fogged. It is a new mask, only 9 dives with it. but i will try some of the recommendations here. If it worked for you guys it has got to work for me. Thanks again.:)

After trying everything from serious spitting to toothpaste to potato juice - all with varying effectiveness - I think I've cracked it.
The mask fogs up because of gunk coating the inside so I use a gentle exfoliant bodywash (Mine's JOhnson and Johnson Ph 5.5 Daily Exfoliating but anything similar would probably do). Avoid anything greasy. It's probably similar to the Soft Scrub that people have mentioned in previous replies.
I know you're not supposed to use anything abrasive but I got so fed up with the flood and clear routine.

Try some different brands of defogger, too. Some work better than others & it is the cheapest scuba goody to experiment with!

I have tried toothpaste, mild soap, no tear baby stuff...and nothing is working. The mask is new and I've only used it a few times. But it foggs up constantly. It pretty much ruined my last dive :( I've flooded it while diving to try and clear it...it would just fog up again and I would end up with salt water in my eyes (which hurts so bad) I have the paste de-fog, I've tried the spray, and yes, even spit. Nothing is working. I thought of the possibility that I was exhaling out of my nose a bit but I really don't think that is it. The nose peice is larger than my nose (can't help it if I don't have a hug honker)...maybe that's why?? Someone told me to take a lighter to the inside and outside of the mask very quickly. Is that a croc or is it an option?:fire:

Some stuff will burn your eyes if you use too much and can breakdown the skirt of your mask if it gets on it. I use 500 PSI mask scrub. I cleaned an old mask that I have had for a few years and the lens looks just as good as my new backup.

Amber,

Ive never heard of the flame to the lens, but I don't think I'd try it.

1. Clean your mask with soft scrub.

2. Rinse it completely.

3. Let it dry.

4. Put in a small amount of No More Tears and rub it all over the lenes.

5. Do not rinse.

6. Let it dry overnight (or longer).

7. Immediately prior to the dive repeat # 4.

8. Rinse.

9. Dive.

Thank you Walter. I'll try what you said. :froggy:

Its the silicon in the mask. When new they give off vapours that coat the glass. Suprisingly its the better quality masks that do it most. It will wear off

Washing up liquid, toothpaste, spit, Raw potatoe, wet newspaper all work. All your doing is cleaning all the micro debris from the glass that act as nuclei for the water to condense on

Wash your whole mask (including the silicon) in washing up liquid a few times to help get the silica gunk out

Normally takes about 10 dives or so to settle a new mask
