Hi, I have the Volos and have been hearing about people having tearing problems with them..and I've talked to people who've gone 60 dives with them and have had no problems. Just wondering if anyone has any of their own experiences and if the "rate of tearing" has more to do with how someone is kicking (ie, if they are racing around vs. just normal slow kicks) vs. the product.

Thanks!

VOLO's are super sweet. If they don't tear on yours, what's the big deal? I've never seen any torn ones and even if they did, lifetime guarantee. I honestly think that just plain kicking in the water will not cause a fin to tear or break... walking on a rocky (sharp rocky) beach ... maybee

you be the judge.. you own em :D take it easy

I keep hearing the same rumors, but I haven't had any problems and I have over 60 dives on my Volo's. Everyone I have talked to that are using them have had the same experience. I haven't heard anyone actually say they have had a problem. Maybe this is another legend. I also would like to hear from someone that has had a problem.

Hello, scubarat, welcome to the board. Please respect the rest of the members and don't place multiple posts in different categories asking the same question. I've deleted your other posts on this issue. Thanks for your cooperation.

I to have heard that the Volos sometimes break at the hinge after 50 or so dives. But I've yet to see that happen.

On my first dive with Volo's on a liveaboard the pin on the buckle snapped when tightening them up (and only a little pressure!).

Fortunately being properly prepared I had a spare so no diving was lost - good job as I did not fancy a week finning in circles.

Since then - fantastic! Would recommend them to anyone and also recommend that spares of just about everything taken - lesson learnt and thankfully not the hard way.

Jon, I can only think that was a defective pin on the buckle. Both Pearce & I have used various Mares fins for many years. When they came out with their patented latching buckle, we were even more pleased.

Pearce is now on his 2nd pair of Quattros in 7 years. I had a couple of pairs of Avantis (1 for wet suit, 1 for dry) and just recently switched to the Dacor Tigers (which, since the Mares/Dacro merger are essentially yellow Volos). All of them have those neat buckles. And nary a one has given us any trouble.

The only thing we DON'T like is the locking mechanism on the current incarnation. Thank goodness you don't have to use it if you don't want to! :)

BTW, I love the Tigers. So far I only have about 30 dives on them, but they seem to be doing just fine.

Both myself and my dive buddy have owned the volo since last summer. We love them, but and there is always a but. We had all 4 fins break/tear in the same spot. But in the mares favor the LDS did replace the fins with only paying shipping.

I heard reports of the hinge tearing, but have never experienced it.

About a month ago I noticed not a tear in the hinge, but a tear in the rubber channel next to the hinge.

I do an 800 yard snorkel six days a week. I find the Volo's are far less fatiguing on the quads and ankles, but they do not match up speed wise with Quattros.
