Hi, is there a trick to getting the front cap off a Mares proton style first stage? IP has crept up but I'm lost as to how to remove the cap without potentially cracking the plastic case.

I can't see where it joins or if there are tabs that need to be pressed in. Any help would be much appreciated.

It is just a rubber press fit, squeeze it so it puckers a bit on the side so the edge is exposed and then lift the edge up. Warming it up will help.

I have to say I like the really old style which did not have a cap which gives immediate access to the spring and is a bit smaller.

Here is the old style (not my auction, just a reference):

That's not the "really old style" that is the kinda old style. :)
The really olds style was more flat with a solid yoke off the side.

Thanks- it was actually easy once I felt comfortable putting a bit of mustard in to it.
