We just have gators all over the place around here. That particular one was at a local lake called Biven's Arm. I've also seen alot at a place called Paynes Prairie. http://www.floridastateparks.org/paynesprairie/default.cfm

Our school motto is the gator.

Even swam with one at alexander spring.

If you come back to florida I would be surprised if you did not see a gator :14:

Do tell about the swimming with gators. I have heard of diving with manatees, and sharks, but, gators?

Theres a brief discussion of it here around post #19 and on http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=124709&page=2

Bottomline is they are a wild animal and therefore unpredictable. The truth of the matter is that if you are in florida freshwater then you are swimming in gator water. As long as its not a big bull gator or showing aggression, I would not worry about it too much. They are generally afraid of humans unless they have been fed by humans, are mating, or are injured or starving.

We were already in the water when it swam around us, but it did not show any interest so we continued the dive. I hope I see one again when I go back there.

Yet another question for Yoda, where is the best LDS in the area? Mike, you can answer too, if you use one along the coast. I don't see myself traveling north for air fills.

It was at alexander springs. I couldn't bring the cam in the water and by the time we got out it wasn't in a good spot to take a photo of it.

Wow, just checked it out on underwaterflorida.com. Even checked out a brief clip of it. There is so much diving in FL, besides the ocean, I can't wait to get there.

They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I have used and still use all of them from time to time. There's Chuck's dive world in Val-p, Diver's emporium in Crestview, ScubaTech and Emerald coast in Destin, Vortex in Ponce de Leon, and one in Fort Walton on HWY 98 (I think it's Scuba Shack or something like that). Over all, I use ScubaTech the most. It fits most of my needs most of the time.

I've used Vortex before, when I did a couple dives at their site. A little out of the way if I planned to do any beach dives.

Out of curiosity, what kinds of tanks are you using? I have a few AL80's that keep me breathing. I also know people who swear by steel tanks.
