Mine is securely tied off at the end of the reel. I have only let out all the line a couple of times to a very brisk drift at Boynton Beach, glad the attachment was secure.

Yes like the manta.
Never had an issue with either of mine both custom diver reels.

What I meant in the OP was how do people deal with the very end of the line? Do they leave a clip permanently attached or loop it, or use a line stop ala diverite reels. On a rachet reel all those can introduce some slack which is obviously less than ideal.
You pretty much answered your own question. Some use a line stop and some loop it around a portion of the reel, some just leave it loose and flopping all over looking to snag everything in sight.

Hi @Zi55ou, sorry I misunderstood you for my last response. I only use my Manta reel with my flag and float for drift diving. I leave a swivel eye bolt snap attached to the end of the line. I hook it to the permanently affixed bolt snap and wind it up tight. I've not ever had a problem with loose line. I use a spool to deploy my SMB

This is what I have found to be perfect: Shopping Categories Piranha Dive Shop |

It's got a line guide and a thumbscrew to lock the reel at any depth or when you wind the line all the way in. I had no end of problems with fingerspools and don't like the clicker style (too big). This one is perfect for me.

+1 for the Manta Nano series. They are well made and simple and easy to use.

15m is wayyy too short skippers want you to bag off from the wreck round these here parts so 50m at the very least!

It also comes in lengths up to 300ft

ah, such junk: Reels - Ratchet :letsparty: Must dispose of mine and get "proper reels"...

OP: I regularly use them (various ratchet reels) without problems. The amount of space between "clicks" shouldn't pose a problem with line "escaping".... I use a bead or other item as a stop.

do you let the line stop dangle (even though it would only be an inch or two)?
what I've ended up doing is attaching the endloop of the line to a small loop of bungee which i'll loop around the line and use that to pull in any excess line (if that makes any sense).
