skimresources script still failing on OS X and Firefox 3.6 on the main page.

I feel like we've been communicating with respect, and I certainly try to be patient, but this recent "upgrade" has left one of my favorite sites so slow that I'm checking in less and less. I brought home a new computer today, with a brand new clean install of Snow Leopard, and it's just as bad as it was on the old G5.

I am with you.....so slooooooowwwww it took me 5 minutes to respond to this post....and it is even worse here at home I can only get DSL and it is almost impossible to get on the forums :-( no likey
PM sent.

Sorry to pile on here ... this is not personally directed, but just fact. My time on SB has decreased by at least two-thirds since the upgrade. It is simply too cumbersome right now to deal with. I run Vista Home Premium on a fast dual quad system with IE8, current Firefox, or current Opera. I run some well-respected system tune-up programs daily, as I always did before ... nothing changed there. I have a high-speed cable connection. While I am not a full-on computer junkie, I make regular efforts to keep my system running lean and well. I will be patient, and await the day when the admistrators say, "There you go ... that's the final product." I really hope it returns to what it once was, but that will require, IMHO, substantial visual changes as well as functional ones. But right now, let's just say I have more free time for other things. I also can't recommend SB to others right now without passing on the current problem issues. I am also leery of the idea of a "pro" designing a new skin; this could mean a very broad range of results. Let's hope for the best.

Try it around 2am Texas time. Nothing. The Aussies much be frantic, or - well, have we heard from them.

I do see slow spells at other times. I just open all the threads or forums I want to check on various tabs and let them load, or post a reply on one tab and read the next while it loads, or - check on FB or email while they load. Juggle juggle...

Just downloaded Google Chrome; I believe SB is slower on it that the other three browsers, at least on my system.

I think Chrome is very fast but SB just had a slow period just now.

I don't know what to tell you. Except others have reported an Opera incompatibility when editing.

Here's my current timings:

From a blank FF 4 window time to load SB - just over 3 secs. (not accurate - just watching a second counter on a digital clock)
Time to load your post above - 7 secs from a subscribed thread in UserCP. <- seems a little slower tonite than normal.

Seeing anything close to these numbers?

Currently 24MBPS download .81MBPS upload <- usually in the 2-4MBSPS range but irrelevant and 34MS latency (ping) <- usually in the high 20's. I atttribute it to Memorial Weekend Netflix streaming traffic...lol. I've read some nights it's 20-30% of the entire U.S. broadband traffic.

I've been a SB member for a couple of years. In my experience, SB's always had slow periods. Sometimes the pages pop right up, sometimes they take a while and sometimes nothing happens at all. But most of the time it loads reasonably fast.

As far as I can tell, the upgrade hasn't changed page loading speeds at all.

FWIW, I use Windows Vista at work and Safari at home.

Navigation continues to be clunky compared to the earlier version, but I'm hoping the final edition will take care of that.

I think I mentioned this in another thread but I believe Chrome has some issues depending on your AV software. I use AVG Free and always used Chrome and was happy with everything, Around the time the upgarde happened (just for time frame and not to imply in any way the upgrade is responsible for this) my AVG updated and my Chrome basically stopped my system. Everytime I tried to use Chrome it would freeze my system. I am now onto Firefox 4 because it does not freeze my system. Bottom line is I question whether Chrome is the best solution anymore. For me anyway, I know it is not. YMMV

The day after my original post in this thread saying this was the heaviest site I have ever seen I momentarily felt too quick to judge, it's now clear I was too kind with my words. I have very occasionally surfed porn sites daily:), a multi-billion dollar industry with marketing we've never even dreamed of and have never found a site as bad as this. We can wait, but in order for it to be fixed the denial has to end. Period.
