The original 7/8 valves come onto the market from time to time, so if you keep an eye out you can pick up a valve or two for a reasonable price.
I have a pair of Asahi made Genesis HP100s, I think they are great if the price is right which for me is under $200 used. I do have to position the tank higher than I would would a Faber, but other than that I dive the heck out of them. But they wouldn't be my first choice for sidemount or doubles (LP50s would).
