Well it looks like Playa del Carmin will get a cruise ship port. AMLO has finalized seizing Alabama based Vulcan materials deep water port and facilities on the mainland. This area is actually part of Cozumel.

This is on top of passing constitutional amendments to replace all judges and and making the national guard a national police under military control with minimal civilian oversight. A lot of major power consolidation is going on with the ‘super majority’ control of congress by the Morena party.

Gonna be interesting to see what comes of that port and the land involved. I tell people all the time , dont believe you own your property in Mexico. There is always someone who can take it from you....

"President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who leaves office next week, has long criticized Vulcan's activities as environmentally damaging, and officials ordered a halt to limestone quarrying by Vulcan's Calica unit two years ago."

Same guy who championed the Mayan Train, one of the most environmentally destructive projects of all time? Guess you can't be ashamed if you don't have any shame in the first place.

Is that the cut and jetty that leads into the quarry? I have seen smaller cruise ships docked there a couple of times and I heard it referred to as "Calica". It's about 4.5 miles SW of the PdC ferry pier.

Vulcan refused to sell ballast stone to the Mexican govmt and refused to let them use the port to import stone. Vulcan had existing contracts for the stone and the ports. AMLO contracted with Cuba to purchase stone, which came over by barges too big to dock, so the stone was offloaded at sea to smaller vessels. If Vulcan had played nice, they would still have their property.

We've stayed there a few times. It was being run by a guy named Carlos. I don't know if he was the "original owner" or the guy intending to take over or just an agent for one of them. He talked as if he was the owner, talked to us about his plans to put in a pool, some of the things he was working out on it like engineering study, then later did it.

Article says it was empty at time of seizure which is odd. It was never packed full but I've often seen guests there walking by and there were several others when we stayed there so maybe this action was seen coming and it wasn't taking reservations?
