best not to pull on the claws at all. once you skull'm it takes a handfull (pun intended)of molting cycles to grow back (that could be a good 3 years). and that lobster is at a serious disadvatange when hunting, being hunted and breading. as a side note for the newer lobster hunters, I've either read or been told that it's against the law to have lobster "parts" and the punishment is the same as pull out a short/long.

I think, but am not certain, that that's only true if you have a mismatch. As I understand it, two dismembered lobsters and two pairs of claws is okay. Two dismembered lobsters and five claws is not okay at all. Two dismembered lobsters, 3 crusher claws, and one pincer might also get you into trouble with an observant EPO.

In any case, there's no lobster like a whole lobster.

What exactly would a lobster be breading? A piece of fish maybe? :) Is that like breaded veal or chicken breast?

I used to live in Mass, and had a permit for quite a few years. My trick was use three finger gloves. If a bug backed away or was deep in a hole, I would pull my fingers out of the left glove(make a fist) and let it pinch the glove then grab it with my right hand. Sometimes it drew them out looking for a fight. Sometimes it didn't work. Another benefit of three finger gloves is, if you get pinched, it's easy to move your fingers around the glove, and the bug gets only neoprene. Also, when I did get pinched, I stopped all movement, and the bug usually relaxed it's claw enough to quickly pull my hand away. I had a 10.5 lb one that looked big as a bus @ Magnolia Rocks but I got him. Key is don't hesitate, because you would be amazed at the spaces these things will back into to get away from you, nevermind getting all legs gripping the rocks!! Good luck buggin!!

I was wondering if anyone knew if you had to be a MA resident to get the permit because i live in Albany NY and i have family that lives just south of Boston and they are always wanting me to go out with them

dive with the license holder and have him surface with bugs in his bag.
