I have an underbite. During the summer my bottom lip gets sun burned to the point of bleeding. I wear sunblock that I put on everytime I come up and I wear a large brim hat that I keep in my bcd and put on everytime I come up from a dive. The reflexion of the water is killing me. I wanted to see if anyone has any other ideas that might help. Surely I am not the only person that gets sun burned lips.

Come dive here in Maine, the sun isn't as strong.

Surfers use a product from Shiseido. its found at the make-up counter.

The problem with lip balms (sunblocks or others) is that they get mostly rubbed off while you're diving, so the answer would seem to be keeping your lips sheltered somehow, and you've tried a hat....

Do you use a snorkel on the surface? Maybe if you have something in your mouth to wrap your lips around, they won't be so exposed to the sunlight.

I've seen divers wear neoprene caps backwards underwater. Might help to wear one, then turn the cap and mask around on the surface. ;)

Thanks for the advice. I have tried evertything except the shi shisheido cream. I will look for that. I spend time on surface because I am working with students. I wear a large brim hat every moment I am up. Thanks for the help everyone. Clay

I feel for ya Craborn....I do alot of golfing and I'm out in the sun alot....my lips get burned alot and blister sometimes. The only thing I do is put on the SPF 40 chapstick before I go out and during. This doesn't help you when you're out on the water I know.... Keep trying new things and perhaps you find the right technique. I hate having burned lips...irritating...grrrrrrrr
