We have been discussing the north fronts of late.

Huh? The thread is about weather patterns....duh! Isn't there an accident/incident you can find on the google box?:callme:

Windguru or Windfinder, the only thing that normally matters concerning port clousures is the wind.

Windguru

A good leading indicator for an El Norte is the wind forcast for Galveston. Currently Galveston is showing a strong North wind on the 22nd / 23rd, which is a loooong way out.

Let's hope not! My diving starts on the 22nd

How can you see a Windguru prediction for those dates? I don't think any predictions over 5 days in advance is very dependable, but they have improved.

Like DD I don't put much faith in forecasts that far out. 5 days out is all that I will consider, but till April it IS prime norte season.

Came in on Friday to beautiful weather and the storm hit that night. Port was closed Sat thru Mon. :( That's the normal 3 day norte, but was hardly a 'mild' front Flyboy. Sorry. I was here. It was windy as HELL. Tuesday was still rough and honestly, I was glad I didn't dive. Wednesday was rough in the morning, but beautiful in the afternoon. It was the only sunny day we got. Thursday was partly cloudy and chilly and the vis was pretty poor, but I still had a great time :) Today it's overcast, and cool. The diving was great, vis better than yesterday, but still not great. I had a great time diving, just wish I could have more! LOL The overall weather has been what I would call less than ideal this past week even for Coz in December. That is based on MY experience over the years... The weather is on the change again with rain in the forecast. Windguru shows a couple of days with gusts up to 20mph again. I'm hoping for the best for all you coming in!! :)

Thanks @kixy1 for that update. I land on the 21st-- Diving 22nd - 30th. Fingers crossed. I have only ever lost 1 day of diving in COZ to an El Norte. Was in a February-- The same year the Seahawks lost to the Pats in the Super Bowl. Watched it at Casa Cuzamil restaurant. They had a killer BBQ, all you can eat and all you can drink Super Bowl bash on their rooftop that year. Was epic!-- except for the Seahawks loss.

At least YOU were in Coz.... I was at home crying in my beer. In the cold. It STILL hurts! LOL I'm thinking positive for you. The weather goddess is bound to get tired by the 21st :)

The Isla is as sad for me to leave as I am to leave her. She's crying her eyes out and drenching the island, poor thing. Haven't seen a boat, so I'm assuming port is closed again. Should be, as vis above water is horrible. Well, we got ONE good weather day this week. I hope we have better luck next year :)

I just saw two plastic Coke bottles floating down my street...

The webcam from Fiesta Americana @ 10:20 is showing several boats heading south so I am assuming the port is open. Looks awful wet, but open. Hope you have better luck next time, personally I found last weekend very frustrating and to have the port reopen the day I flew out was like adding insult to injury but it's a tropical island and weather happens.
