I have not, and I specifically asked Armando if he had seen her - he said not yet. I will tell him to keep a special eye out for her and Chucho and see if we can't get you that info!

Heard from Alisons mom - her and her crew (along with her boat) are all fine :)

Okay - I have called most of the airlines and they are showing scheduled flights to Coz & Cancun today!
NOW - have you ever talked to someone & felt you were getting a scripted answer? That is kind of what it felt like -
I asked the agents on the phone if they showed flight available (to both destinations) today. They said yes. WHen I asked if it was confirmed the respective airports were open to inbound tourism, they all said, "The flight is not cancelled, so we assume that it is fine"
Perhaps if there is a travel agent on the board (Kat?) they can REALLY find out for us!!!!!
I have not heard from Armando yet as to thte other stuff.
Looking forward to some concrete answers about flights!!!!!!

There was a meeting of the hotel GM's last evening for a status report and planning.
As soon as Armando calls this morning I will know more of what you are asking.
Will post as soon as I talk to him.

Thank you, Holly

I just got off the phone with Yolanda owner of Yucatek Diving in Playa del Carmen - LOTS of info!!!!!
First - she says Playa is not pretty - BUT it is NOT as bad as the pictures on interent!!! They got electricity back last night - WOO HOO!!! (Hopefully Coz can too!!!)
There is inbound flights to Cancun and THERE IS bus service to Playa!!! They finished clearing the road to playa yesterday!!! Her godson arrived last night - NO PROBLEM!!!!!
Now - STILL NO FERRIES TO COZ - because the "sea was very angry yesterday" according to Yolanda (she is a WONDERFUL person - if you know her you can almost hear her saying those words!)
She says the sea & wind have settled dramatically - hopefully ferries today! I will call her tonight again to find out.
The road heading south out of Playa was still closed yesterday to cars - so they walked to Puerto Aventuras to check on thier boats - ALL thier boats were fine!!!! She says 90% of all the boats she saw were fine & 10% had some damage. P. Aventuras (and further south of course) was hit harder than them, but still it is not wiped off the map like everyone is thinking!!!!!!
So my friends....looks like we might be able to get to Coz soon!!!!!!! YEAH!! Now, here is my delima, stay in Miami with working electricity (translated to air conditioning) or go home & "go camping" HOME!!!!!!!! I WANT TO BE HOME!!!!!! Electricity or not! Would someone remind me of this in a few days if I am there & complaining?!?!?!
More news to come..........

My husband called Continental Airlines last night and asked what their refund policy was for customers flying onto Cozumel. The CSR said the policy is that anyone flying into Cozumel through Monday, the 25th can get a refund or reschedule the flight. But the refund or rescheduling has to be done before the currently scheduled flight takes off.

Very greatful that Cozumelians ;) can get their lives back to 'normal' relatively quickly and that their (most) of their livliehoods were virtually undamaged.. Heard the news about the 'other side' ... We werent planning on going over this visit - but if they are ready when we get there we'll have to show them a little support ;) Looking forward to our visit - Hopefully, Fiesta Americana is too ;)

Holly, on behalf of myself and everyone from scubaboard - THANK YOU for taking the time and effort to keep us all updated !!!!

Hi Becky - It is my pleasure - afterall I HAVE to find out for myself (peace of mind) might as well pass it on!!!
For those of us that live in the tropics and make our living in tourism what we always say is this:
We can weather the storm, we can replace "STUFF", the hardest part about a hurricane is the lack of business AFTERWARDS - it really gives us a hit in the wallet becuae not only do we all have additional expenses (replacement/rebuilding/repair etc...) but we often have a lesser income due to lack of tourists - sometimes for several months! So on behalf of ALL of us in Cozumel & Riviera Maya - for those of you not cancelling your trips to see us - THANK YOU!!!!! You have no idea of the difference your continued suport can make for us!!!!!!!!

I just got an email from her mom. I'l post it here:

"Hola….

I’m Rhondda, Alison’s Mom. I live in Carlsbad California. I just spoke with Alison on the telephone earlier today.

I spoke with Alison today. Her message: "August will be just fine. We look foward to seeing you then"

So far, there is neither electricity nor internet service in Cozumel. Alison, Carlos and Chucho are okay. The wind was scary and horrible from 12:00 midnight until 12:30 a.m. but all is well now. The Enigma II is out of the water and unscathed. As of the moment, there is no electricity on the island unless a generator is available

There was minimal damage on the main waterfront. Most of the damage was in the southern hotel zone. Iberostar, Occidental Grand, Allegro and Reef Club were hit the hardest of the coastal hotels.

The guests at the Reef Club were returned to their rooms Monday afternoon. As of Monday 3:00 p.m. the guests of Occidental Grand, Allegro and Iberostar were still stuck in the shelter. Tuesday morning Alison will go to these hotels to check for damages and information from the managers.

The most damage in town was within the southern residential areas. Hundreds of power poles and trees feel into the street. As of Monday, 7:30 p.m. there is no radio service in Cozumel and no news of any kind. The homes appear to be in good condition, people seem to be okay. For more information, please write again in two weeks.

If you have reservations within the next two weeks, stand by. I’ll call Alison and find out what is going on and then Ill get back to you.

Gracias Rhondda"
