Hey,

I am about to head off to the galapagos for 5 weeks and am rushing to get my equipment purchased. I am trying to decide between an Apeks XTX50 and an aqualung titan but I feel like i'm just going around in circles...future use will probably be in warmer water than the colder water of the galapagos at this time of year... any advice?

The Titan's a solid choice, could last a career of single-tank recreational diving, comes in a cold-water version as well IIRC. We see a lot of them in our shop.

I wouldn't call Galapagos cold water, though, at least not in terms of regulator selection. It's more than 60F, right?

Can't comment on the XTX50 but I dive an Apeks Black Pearl locally (cold water, like Saturday's 40F at FourMile Lake) and the Pearl's a great unit.

I think the Apeks first stage would allow you to look up more before hitting the back of your head on it. That's an important consideration for me. Where the ports are, and how many, can also be a deciding factor.

Either is a solid choice, the XTX50 is a little more "tech" orientated, and the Titan is a little more Recreational.

The ACD is a great little feature on the Titan, and you can "upgrade it" later with some legend parts if you wanted to have venturi adjustment.

the XTX is a great all around reg, if price is not a consern and you take good care of your gear than the XTX is what I would side on, it will also give you a little more "boat cred" from the techies.

if you are a little more forgetfull or "harder" on your gear, the Titan may be a better choice since it a little more forgiving, (we have them in rental for this very reason) just make sure it's the "ACD LX Supreme" version.

Cheers
