Dude,
Don't even think that way. Remember, it's not ALL of them, just a few. Hurting hard working lobstermen and their families is WAY not cool. Unless you knew specifically who the traps belonged to and that they were the ones responsible for harrasing divers, but even then you would be subject to some pretty stiff fines and you would really regret it if you were caught.

I'm pretty pissed about this too, but if I saw a diver doing that to traps I'd call the cops.

John C.

Peace is nice, but sometimes a littel special ops against people who maybe, or maybe not vandalizing peoples property for no reason is sometimes necessary.

Just a quick point of reference to Cape Ann Divers. I checked their website to see what it said about Lane's Cove. It doesn't appear on their map or list. Maybe they already know about the problems there and prefer not to recommend the site.

I e-mailed them to tell them about the situation and they replied "We took Lanes cove off of our dive map years ago due to the friction at that site."

If you search this site you will find multiple old postings about the crap that happens out at lanes cove. Nothing has changed.

When I did investigations here in Florida, we used covert equipment from these guys. They have everything you could need when coupled with Radio shack.

We used to make wearable transmitters and put the cameras n mikes on us. The receiving gear was in the trunk. Good luck with this problem!

All of this makes me want to go there even more (in someone else's car, of course).

A letter to the editor of a local paper would be a good action to take as well (at the least it should embarass these people).

For those who uncomfortable carrying a firearm (or leaving it in your car - which is a tricky matter here in ma - as it needs to be unloaded and locked), I would strongly recommend carrying mace/OC. Being beaten up some drunken loosers that the cops would probably never track down, would be a tough way to close out a dive. Be careful.

Well, the only chance it would embarass them is if a literate person reads the paper and then tells them what it says.

Someone should organize a large group of divers(safety in numbers!) to go there on a Friday afternoon(seems like the best time to nab liquored-up Lanesville folk) and have a non-diver or, a diver willing to forego getting wet, sit in the shadows with a video camera ready for action. Catch them in the act of vandalizing the vehicles. Then there would be no question who the culprits are and Gloucester's finest would be forced to take some police action if confronted with a video tape. If they didn't, just get the officers names and take the tape to the Chief.

Slashing tires, pulling valve stems, breaking windshields, keying the paint, etc in MA are acts considered to be Malicious Destruction of Property over $250 which is an arrestable felony.

A 'gear war' sounds great, but you'd be stooping to their Neanderthal level. Maybe that's insulting Neanderthals............

*my two cents*

What do you say? Who do you accuse? I hardly believe the Gloucester Police are going to go out of their way to fight for the rights of out-of-town divers over local lobstermen.

But I hear you. It's probably worth at least giving them a heads-up.

Hey Peace good to see you back. Easy does it on the Local PD they are actually quite helpful folks. Think of it this way we bring coin to the area without taking much back in return. They live and die for tourist and divers. I will volunteer to sit out with a video camera if anyone is interested in catching these yahoos or even a real sharp still cam if you think that would be better. Local trouble makers are a real pain in the rear for the police and doing this nonsense ain't helping. I think the local PD would be way more inrterested than you think.
