**$%ing pathetic cowards. I've got plenty of sympathy for people who work their butts off to scratch out a rather meager living from the sea...but when I hear stories like this...ugh!

I would agree with the Cape Ann Divers route, especially if any of the folks at CAD know you.

Even if the police don't react, you should at least file a report. This creates a permanent record of mis-behavor at that spot.

Call the Cops!! Everytime!! Awareness is the only way this "silliness" will stop. Call the cops everytime someting like this happens! Once the police know it's happening and are getting bugged by divers they will do something, it's their job, isnt it? Last time I checked intentionally slashing/flattening tires is a crime!! Plus if you were that cop, you'd be pissed, you're supposed to be out there catching real criminals, saving lives, knapping in your cop-car, filling up on coffee and doughnuts (justkidding gents) and you have to deal with some local being an idiot!? Think of all that paperwork; property/less worksheet, incident summary, witness statements, there must be like 20 forms that need to be filled out for something like this!! It will stop fast enough.

Also, Anyone think about video? or even calling the local news channel? newspaper? Would really make that individual look like the coward they are if they're caught on film!

seriously call the authorities, even call them today to report the incident.

Maybe the police wouldn't do anything if you report it. But if no one reports it, they definitely won't do a thing. And the more reports they get, the harder it would be for them to ignore it.

Also just because some cops were joking around with them does not necessarily mean the entire police force are in their back pocket. Yesterday a cop who is a diver had a long very friendly conversation with a group of us about the wreck we were diving yesterday. You might see that and assume he was our best buddy but the truth was he only just met us. If we had broken the law it certainly didn't mean he'd do us any favors.

Finally, even if some of the Gloucester cops are these guy's friends, it doesn't mean they all are. Are you friends with all the same people as everyone else where you work?

Just let Cape Ann know. Now for the Police Report.

BTW, We would have done the PR Friday night were it not for the surrounding ordeal just trying to get home.

Another thing that should be addressed is why they don't like divers at this area. Is there something we are doing that pisses them off. If we are doing something bad or not right we need to put word out to the divers that go their to make sure they don't violate the locals space somehow. Any idea what these locals are pissed off about, is it litter, pissing in front of the residents, ruining the area with parking etc.

I knew my description would end up sounding like a generalization. Precisely the reason I avoided it in my first post. Suffice to say that "you had to be there" to understand everything.

Yeah, I wonder the same thing myself:

- I have NEVER seen more than a small handful of divers at any one time. It just doesn't seem that popular.
- We generally keep the place clean. The party that was leaving when we arrived was taking out a bag of trash (spent fireworks).
- Parking is completely legal if you obey the signs and don't block the driveway.
- The dive site is very well hidden by a large sea wall and doesn't even face "those residents" (referring to pissing in front of residents).
- Other residents don't seem to mind at all. I've spoke with a couple of them on different occassions (the ones in the little red house at the top of the hill offered to let us in their home to use the phone etc...). Their neighbors are the ones that warned us that this group is known to cause trouble.

You got me. Maybe it was the whopping 6 lobsters that 4 of us took on 2 dives.

I HOPE people like Cape Ann Divers get involved.
I shy away from going to Cape Ann because of just this sort of crap I hear about.
Now I will definatley stay away from Cape Ann altogether. I just don't need that kind of aggravation. I hope someone catches these jerks sometime.

This is why I will continue to dive in Nahant and not Gloucester. Too many stories of vandalism and fishermen ignoring dive flags.

Sheesh, one of the things that discouraged us from diving Cape Anne years ago was the general hassle/parking difficulties and the basic fact that non-locals were obviously not really wanted at any of these places - but at least no one was trashing tires back then that I recall. If someone did that to me I would absolutely be filing a report.
