Diving accident at Lake Geneva: a fifty-year-old is killed in Thonon-les-Bains

A 55-year-old man was killed on Sunday October 16 while diving. Member of the underwater club of Léman, he evolved with a teammate of dive off Saint-Disdille at a depth of about fifty meters.

According to our information, the victim was pinned by the slings of a wrecked sailboat. His partner came to the surface very quickly to alert the other members of the club. Without respecting the different levels, he was evacuated to the Geneva cantonal hospital by the Civil Security helicopter in order to be placed in a decompression chamber.

If a second diver in turn tried to free the 50-year-old, the latter unfortunately could not be revived.

An investigation has been opened by the police.

Sounds like a salvage gone wrong. My hats off to the diver that tried to get help for his buddy, I hope he makes a complete recovery. I am saddened to hear the death of the other diver.
