On Saturday afternoon, February 11, 2023, an ice diving accident occurred at Lac de Taney. One person died as a result.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. on the frozen Lac de Taney in the municipality of Vouvry. During a course excursion organized by an ice diving club, a participant suddenly lost consciousness underwater for reasons that have not yet been explained. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the group, the diver was rescued from the lake and consequently resuscitated. After receiving first medical aid, the 48-year-old Italian citizen residing in the canton of Geneva was initially in critical condition and flown by helicopter to the CHUV in Lausanne. He passed away there on Sunday evening.

The public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation.
