Hi Debbie,

No, I actually did mean at the top of the stairs at Shaw's. There would be no reason to park twice, unless someone was really concerned about walking a short distance to get to and from a dive.

Christian

Christian,

When was the last time you *walked* from Shaw's over, down, and around to South Cresent??? In my opinion, it's not a quick, short walk, especailly in full scuba equipment. Divers are expressing concerns re the surface swim to Deadman's. If you can walk from Shaw's to Cresent in full scuba, then you all are in better shape than you think. And that is 'South Cresent.' Deadman's and Seal Rock are located at North Cresent.

If there are classes at Shaw's in the morning, we may be shut out as far as parking goes. I have assisted with classes there on Saturday mornings and if you are not there by 6am, you are out of luck. If we decided to dive Deadman's/ Seal Rock first at North Cresent, I would suggest parking on the loop or upper loop, or even at South Cresent. Do one or two dives there (Deadman's can be deep or shallow depending on which way you decide to dive. North/South Reef reaches 66' fsw; East/ West Reef sits in about 45' fsw) Seal Rock and Pinnacles sits just North of Deadman's. Depending on air, we can hit both in one dive, or do Deadman's, then Seal Rock. Get air fills, eat, and move to another site after the morning classes have cleared.

There is ALOT of marine life to bee seen at Deadman's, Seal Rock/ Pinnacles, and Shaw's. I have seen lots of Moray's, Octo's, Spanish Shawls, Bugs, goby's, halibut, C-O Sole, Blacksmith, cowries, anenomes, treefish, greenlings, ect, ect.

I am very familiary with these dive sites and would be happy to navigate. Any photographers in the group???

In general, we kick out, dive the reef, and make it back to shore UW with 500 psi left.

I'm game whatever the group wants to do.

As we dive Shaws, we can go around to South Cresent side and back.

When I'm at Shaw's I usually pop over to Crescent to use the facilities. So actually I did that a couple of weeks ago. I'm certainly not attempting to put anyone into cardiac arrest here. I'm open to suggestions that will help the group.

That sounds good to me. My air consumption is still not all that great. I've got to get my level of fitness way up before I expect that to get better. Last time I roughtly figured it out, my SAC rate came out to .68 with a medium level of exertion. Jim's air consumption has been almost exactly the same as mine on the dives we have done together and his air integrated computer has come up with about the same SAC rate. So, I'm not sure that I'd be able to cover both Deadman's and Seal Rock in one dive on my AL 80. A surface swim back in doesn't really bother me if I run short, I just don't want to spring that on a buddy that would rather avoid that.

That would be really cool to have someone who is as familiar with the site as you are navigate. David (dazedone) is a photographer.

I'm game for what the group wants as well. What you describe is what the dive with Pasley was like, kick out, dive and back with 500 psi left.

Diver_Jan:

I've done that with Jim and it was a good dive.

Hopefully, we get some feedback from the rest of the group on all of this. I'm game for doing this however anyone wants to.

I see 50% chance of showers on Saturday. No torrential rain predicted.

Even if it rains a little, they are only predicting 1 -2 foot waves from the NW and 2 - 3 foot waves from the SW. It looks like the heaviest surf was predicted for today and that it's supposed to drop off dramatically tomorrow.

Here is what the tides will look like:

2004-11-06 05:53 PST 4.19 feet High Tide
2004-11-06 06:15 PST Sunrise
2004-11-06 11:18 PST 2.69 feet Low Tide
2004-11-06 16:29 PST 4.10 feet High Tide
2004-11-06 16:54 PST Sunset
2004-11-06 23:19 PST 0.65 feet Low Tide

So, unless we get heavy rain, I think it will be a nice day.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I carpooled with Icy Ice to our little bash in La Jolla, but he lives 10 min. from me.

It takes me almost as long to drive to Long Beach as it does Laguna Beach from Altadena.

There may be people near you though.

Good luck suit hunting!

We are supposed to have drizzle, therefore, there shouldn't be any 'run off' therefore, I will be there ready to dive, dive, dive!!!

We're going to be wet anyway, might as well make the best of it!

This will be a nice opportunity for those to practice and gain beach diving experience. Might need to take a few extra minutes or so to watch the sets for maximum safety. For those that haven't dove Deadman's or Seal Rock, think that maybe it would be good to do a quick dive briefing beforehand. Getting back can be a little tricky if you are not familiar with the topography or navigation.

Just my .02 cents

That sounds just right. We'll have a good dive briefing.

I'm in for 2 dives Sat. morning. After reading the thread to this point it looks like everyone will meet 8:00 - 8:30AM at Shaw's and make the final decision on the dive sites. Sounds good to me. See you there.

That's correct Aaron. I look forward to meeting you.

It looks more and more like we will dive Deadman's in Crescent Bay first, but we'll meet at the top of the stairs at Shaw's Cove to make that decision. David (dazedone) and I talked on the phone and he's up for Deadman's as long as we don't race out there. There is also talk of a night dive.

For those that want to, you can park at the top of the ramp at Crescent and just wander over to Shaw's with no gear on while we make our final decisions.

Christian

Aaron, glad you can make it. Don't think we'll see 8 footers at Crescent like last time.
