Dazedone, I'll dive around the closer reefs with you if we do Crescent. It's all good.

Try the south side of crescent. I have heard it's quite nice and the "veterans" dive there. (Never been there myself)

Sean

edit:

You can also try Seal Rock. Melvin and I saw a nice eel right around there. Also lots of octopus in the area. Look for the empty shells....

Hey, that's a good idea. We could try south Crescent and make our way around to Shaw's. Then maybe Seal Rock for #2.

Wow, I was just looking at the webcam near Heisler Park, and it looks like Lake Laguna. Not a wave in sight. Although the lifeguards report that visibility is only about 10 ft., dive conditions fair, water 63 Suunto degrees. Wonder why....

Cool. I have never done the south side of crescent, so that should be fun. I definetly want to do Shaw's as well.

And I promise I won't make any wisecracks about your weights. Oops. Too late.

See you Sat!

Did you mean to say you'd meet at the top of Crescent? That is where you'd swim out for Deadman's. IF Crescent IS where you intend to meet, make sure everyone knows whether to meet at the ramp or the stairs (probably the ramp.)

Not trying to confuse everyone, but why try to park twice?
Hi Debbie,

No, I actually did mean at the top of the stairs at Shaw's. There would be no reason to park twice, unless someone was really concerned about walking a short distance to get to and from a dive.

Since we are planning multiple dives that day, I thought that I would pick a parking location central to all of the sites that we're considering. Maybe one at Crescent, one at Shaw's and one at Diver's/Fisherman's. Shaw's is right in the middle. We could easily check out all of the sites on foot from there and decide where to dive first. Ann Marie will be doing her rescue dive class at Shaw's, so that way her car would already be there when she is done.

Since I'm thinking that Deadman's will be the first dive, it's only a walk of a couple of short blocks to the top of the ramp at Crescent from the top of the stairs at Shaws. If we decide to dive Diver's/Fisherman's Cove instead we can just walk a couple of blocks to those. If we decide to dive Shaw's last we're already there and have the shortest distance to get to the cars once we are tired.

I personally feel that parking the cars is more of a hassel than walking a couple of blocks in either direction, but I may be alone in that thinking.

I'm totally open to the opinions and suggestions of those that will be diving that day. If anyone wants to park and meet in a different spot, let me know. I'll probably park at Shaw's, but will walk to anywhere people want to meet.

A rain prediction is rearing it's ugly head for fri/sat/sun...

Hopefully it will not be bad enough to pollute the water.
I see that. I just checked weather.com and they are predicting scattered showers for Saturday, but nothing before then. Only a 30% chance, so it'll probably just be a little overcast with an occasional drizzle.

Jim and I had a day like that a few weeks ago, where rain was predicted and it turned out to be a great day.

Let's keep an eye on it though.

Hmm, isn't Deadman's about a 1/4 mile swim? I heard it is really cool but I don't know If I want to be doing that, I'm not in the world's greatest shape and while I could undoubtedly make it, I will be very worn out by the end of the dive. Hopefully someone in the group would be willing to dive with me at one of the closer reefs. I can bring my pony in case everyone else wants to do deadmans, so I can go solo.
Yeah, it's a bit of a surface swim. I was a little concerned about diving it when I went there with Pasley, but as he said, "It's not a race". You could do a very leisurely swim out there without using much effort, which is what I did.

Let me see if I can put this in perspective. From Sept. 2003 to Sept. 2004, I made a decision to stop doing all of the physical excercise that I was doing and concentrate and focus completely on a bunch of studying that I needed to do. At the beginning of Sept. 2004, I started mountain biking again on a very easy trail by JPL in Altadena about 2 days per week. By mid Sept. I started trying to go 2 days per week to my karate classes and had to miss a couple of times.

What I'm saying is that by the time I started diving again on Sept. 18th in Catalina, I was definitely what I would consider out of shape. Although I'm now working on getting back into shape, I still consider myself out of shape.

My first day back in the water after having been out for years was on Catalina where I did my first dive with Jim and my second dive with you.

My third dive was with you at Redondo to start getting used to shore diving again.

My fourth dive was with Pasley to Deadman's Reef. We took our time out there and I actually didn't feel too tired when we were done. I could have probably done a second dive, but was still being very cautious not to push myself too far, too soon. It wasn't anything near the tiring dive I had made it out to be in my mind.

You did more diving in a week in Tobago than I've done since I got back in the water.

Now... having said all of that, I'd have no problem doing the more easy dives in the area that Jim was mentioning. I haven't done a dive that goes from Crescent Bay to Shaw's Cove yet, so that would be fun and would end up right where I want to park the cars and meet up at the start. If we do easy dives, I'll probably have no problem doing 3 dives. If we start with Deadman's then I might do 3 dives.

Hopefully, that helps.

I own all of my own equipment and try to keep the tank full, so that I can go at the last moment.

It sounds like thats the only thing you have left! I'm assuming that you own your own fins, but just didn't list them. ;)

You've gotten some good advice in your thread about the wetsuit. Now you just have to try some on. Fit is the most important thing now that you've decided that it has got to be 7mm.

We'll have a great time, but why not just rent what you need and join us. If I remember correctly, you are in Long Beach, so it's pretty close to get to Laguna.
