Not sure where I heard about it initially, but I emailed them a week or two ago and they said 300 yards in 15 minutes, but if you don't get it the first time (July 16 at the pool) there are a couple opportunities later to make it up.

Don't know if there are other physical requirements (aside from the medical clearance).

Hey Jim,

Since the first Sunday is only orientation and lectures, that means that you ADP classmates can join us on Catalina for the Wrinkles dive on Saturday, right? After all, you can be oriented and lectured if you are tired from some great diving the day before. :D

Since my weekends will be locked up thru the summer, I'm gonna do a quickie dive locally on Sat, then spend the rest of the day trying to get stuff done I won't have time to do for the next few weeks. Sounds like fun though. Haven't been to Catalina in a while.

I just read the Wrinkles thread. Sounds like fun. I'm a huge fan of Casino Point. But all express boats are probably booked and I too need to desperately squeeze in errands before the course. I'm so excited!

Well, I just called Catalina Express at 800-481-3470 and they still have room on the 6:15am boat departing from Downtown Catalina Landing, Long Beach available. :D

Last time we were at Casino Point, Frank O came for two dives in the morning and was back home by early afternoon to do some things he had planned with his family.

If you can make it Saturday, we'll be there. For those who aren't going to be in the ADP class that can make it Sunday, we'll be there too.

Now... the errands, I can't help you with. ;)

Something about treading water for 10 minutes, with the last 30 seconds (or 1 minute, don't remember) with your hands out of the pool. At least that is what they did 2 years ago according to a DVD I saw.

This is the stickler for me. I'm negative. It takes a lot of work to keep me on the surface. I stop paddling and I'm walking on the bottom of the pool looking up at everyone. For people who float, such things are eaiser. For me it's an endurance test.

Anyone else doing ADP this year? There's gotta be more than three of us on the board.

I am taking it this year. After five years of diving I thought it was time to get around to taking Rescue. Also the freshwater and altitude diving looked interesting.

With water as cold as it was last weekend at Catalina I wish they would do a dry suit cert too. But I expect no luck there.

See you all there.

Just tried it in the pool. Treading for 10 minutes is piece of cake. But you're right, as soon as you take your arms out of the water you lose the buoyancy they provide. What works for me is to lay my head back in the water, and that provides barely enough buoyancy to keep me afloat with my arms out of the water. Gotta keep your lungs full as possible too. And relax.

Sorry, no floating.

In the video I saw from a previous year, a few people would stop to float and got the call from one of the instructors, "No floating."

I just rewatched it. They were also tossing a 5 pound weight back and forth. :11:
