Hi: We are looking for a good charter company for some easy diving in the Keys for newbies (will be our first dives after certification). Prefer the northern Keys, but anywhere in the area is fine. Thanks much for any advice! Tina

First of all, congratulations on the certification, and welcome to the Board. This exact same question gets asked like 3 times per week. You really need to just review the last couple of pages under the South Florida forum, and you will get lots of info. You then need to call the dive ops referred to, explain your situation, and decide who you feel most comfortable with. I have used Quiescence and Blue Water which are truly right in Key Largo, and Conch Republic, which is about 10-15 miles south, in Tavernier. All were great ops. BW and CR both are active participants on this Board, which I think earns them first look. Do your search, and then ask specific questions if needed.

The last time I dove with Island Ventures, they were still owned by my buddy Brian Berry. He has since sold the op, but the subsequent owners appear to be well recommended. Check out www.islandventure.com. It is located on mile marker 104, on the grounds of Sundowner's Restaurant.

Another good choice is Silent World, which is about 200 yards south of IV. check out www.silentworldkeylargo.com.

These two ops have lower than normal prices for the keys. you'll need to call silent world, as their prices aren't posted in their website, but they are very competitive with those of IV.

Good luck, and congrats on your certification.

Contact Rachel at www.wreckreationcharters.com. She runs a six pack boat and we had a great time with her. She helped my wife and younger daughter with their ow referral dives and all 4 of us did 4 days with her in June on a separate trip. We mostly did Looe Key reefs. Pretty easy dives, nice warm water. She's very reliable and made us feel comfortable on our first post cert dives. She docks her boat at Cudjoe Gardens Marina at mile marker 21.
