Lyd and I have been diving for under a year, having been certified together in October. I know there are many folks out there who think SO's shouldn't certify together, as one will inherently dominate or patronize the other. We just don't have that kind of a relationship.

We do take care of one another, with the "stronger" in any particular field taking the lead. A good example is singing - Lyd is a trained musician, and directs the choir that I also sing in. Musically, she's in the lead there. But, I've served on the Board of Directors for 10 of the 12 years of the chorus's existance. In chorus business matters - I take the lead.

With Scuba - it was new for both of us. We started with a fresh slate, and help each other when questions or problems arise. We wouldn't have it any other way!

Happy Diving,

Scuba-sass :-)

My former S.O. and I were certified together and dove mostly as a dive buddy team. Found out that he made a better dive buddy then a S.O. so now he is my ex. We still dive together, (better now that we don't live together), well that is when his new girlfriend will let him dive. (She is not a diver).

Guess I better start looking for a new dive buddy.....Let's see, single, female tech diver; full cave certified...lol
:tease:

Your poll presupposes one dive buddy. Those of us who dive with more than one buddy - or with lots of different buddies - have no way to answer it.

When I get to pleasure dive my two primary partners are my wife and my son. My wife actually wanted to cave dive from day one. I thought it was nuts until I got a peak on a spring dive. Under presure She is cool as a cucumber and we have the same underwater interests. We like caves wrecks and photographing fresh water fish. We need to get some good cave pictures now. My wife and son are also my primary partners for fishing, camping, hiking and anything else.

For years, I could barely get my wife to put her face in the water. I can now get her to snorkel if she's wearing a life preserver or some other boyance device and I don't let go of her hand. I've totally given up on her ever diving. It's too bad, she's so into fitness and aerobics, she'd be able to spend a day underwater on a single tank.:(

Yes, she is. She said she was with me because "you might have some fun I wouldn't have!"

And I SOOOO glad she did. I'd have never gotten to the places we've gotten to by myself. i.e. Scapa Flow 7/3

Thanks, Honey.

27 years & counting - but I'm happy with this as it's water time for me AND it's with her.

Both of my son's are my SCUBA buddies, but then it's really only for vacations that we get to go out together - we all work different schedules and end up with other folks except when on vacation.

I know that it is not the same as ascending with your wife & saying, "Wow! Did you see that gorgeous nudibrach?" but there are wives who are not certified who just hang around for the picnic. Some of them eventually do get certified because they like the people, and they needed to hear form someone less attached to them how much fun it is. However, if someone really has to be dragged, sometimes it is better to drop the subject, because the cost of equipping a diver who won;t dive can be more tha a trip to Hawaii that you will both enjoy; just in different elements!

Nothing beats having your wife as your dive buddy. Both my wife and I are DM's and Master Divers. We plan our vactions as dive trips ( last trip was 12 days/37 dives).

The only draw back is that you have to buy gear and toys for two, tough when you need 2 dry siuts, 2 BC, ect... only kidding. I would never have it any other way:)

We'd always enjoyed snorkeling on our trips. And seeing divers below us, thought how neat it would be to dive. So we decided one winter to take a weekend class that was available before a trip to Cozumel. Then we did the open water on our vacation.

Since then we've been planning our trips with diving being a priority for the location.

Trying to comunicate under water is funny sometimes when just wanting to get the other ones attention, trying to point something out. It seems to turn into a game of underwater charades. :D
