My delta 4

is still in good shape. At least that portion. But as mentioned I could replace the part and service but at that point I’m 1/4 the cost of a new set and a set that will take me in the direction I’m hoping to go now that I am able to dive again.

Not sure what your quoted service cost was vs the reg set you are comparing to, but make sure you're comparing similar "levels" of regulator. Pretty sure back in 2009ish the Delta4 with FDX10 1st stage (assuming you have same as me) was supposed to be a pretty mid range to maybe higher range setup - at least at the time, I believe it was the best Oceanic offered. Either way, 4 times the cost of a service every couple years for a new reg set starts to get expensive

Do the S550 and S600’s suffer from this? They are soft covers also correct?

Even though they are flexible and rubber-like, the S550 and S600 have sturdy front covers that are bulletproof. The R380 and 500 series don't even noticeably scratch and age very nicely.

The metal trim plates on the S600 and S620ti don't age that gracefully though...

Even those in regular use and cared for Oceanic covers did this after several years. The plastic the used was garbage.
I saw many of these on rental regs and my own regs. Delta3s and Alphas.

Not sure if the Scubapro C360/S600/S620 are a silicone compound. But in any case this problem of getting hard or turning to sticky goo does not seem to affect the Scubapro products. Whatever it is that Scubapro uses is not the same plastic material the soft purge of the AL Titan/Core/Helix/Legend/Titan LX are made from which do get hard and crack. Now the old neoprene rubber soft covers used in the 109 did get hard and rot but today we use silicone parts there that might last a lifetime. A CE 156 BA with silicone soft diaphragm cover:

Maybe this has been settled now and the materials improved such that it is no longer a problem at least in the useful life of a regulator. I hope so.

I do it at all remember what I payed back then. I’m ditching the alpha 8. The delta 4 I will get serviced and move that to my pony bottle.
