You know, they could have called it "MED - Maximum Efficiency Diving", or "PPD - Peak Performance Diving" or almost anything else and not come across nearly as arrogant. But "Doing It Right", eh? Excuse me while I'm laughing... makes it difficult for some of us to even begin to take it seriously.

Whatever. While they agonize over what is and is not "DIR", I'm going out to enjoy some diving. Solo, or with same ocean-same day buddies. On the reef. Following my computer. Taking pictures. Wearing bright colors, splitfins, a jacket BC, an Air2, and a pony. And I'll be having fun!

Although - yeah, you know, that helicopter turn is a great trick to know*. Tip o' the hat to the Borg drones for that trick! But you really don't need Fundies just to figure that one out... :cool2:

*works great with splitfins too, BTW!

No, they weren't saying it was WRONG, and we all knew the reasons why SOME of the divers were doing what they were doing. They just thought it was kind of silly, and certainly made some people's lives more difficult. (And the conversation was private, and not in the hearing of the divers under discussion.)

Oh, dear. With Fritz's comment, I think we have now made the entire rounds of every misconception and criticism of DIR diving that ever comes up in these threads. I think it's enough.

And the misinformation continues...

No worries, I learned my lesson! :D

Is this one of those cases where we need a [sarcasm] font [/sarcasm]? I sure hope so.

Then the complaint would've been "if they're calling it Maximum Efficiency Diving, that must mean they think my way is Minimum Efficiency" ... etc, etc, ad absurdum.

That's why I prefer to just refer to myself as a "Grumpy Old Diver" ... now there's an acronym that's sure to please everyone ... :D

LOL! Ya think, maybe?

Edit: Although the first part is serious, yet Bob has a good point there, too... However, I will be the first to sign up for his G.O.D. dive philosophy classes if he ever offers them. I mean, if you're going to go holier-than-thou, might as well go all the way to the top. ;)
