Every group has an arse or arses.![]()
Maybe I'm grumpy from having been up all night
I have seen it on ScubaBoard as lately as about 1 month ago. A poster made a wild and flaming post claiming that a person (another poster from this thread) was taking their lives in their hands (word for word "Risk your life if you want......." I believe) by diving with non-GUE trained divers......this was specific to GUE divers only but is still indicative IMO. He was told he was being an idiot and making the rest of them look bad and edited his post to "........".
It may not happen often but there are people out there.

the ratio of negative posts ABOUT dir divers to negative posts FROM dir divers is in our favor on scubaboard IMO
OTOH, there is a contingent that has also gone out of their way to discuss the ideas and philosophy to be repeatedly told by people who have never tried it all the reasons why it won't work for them, or why it's a cult, or that they've had too much kool-aide, etc. etc. etc.
A lot of those people have just given up trying to discuss it with non-DIR folks because it just turns into an exercise in frustration.![]()

Y'know, if one were to change "DIR" to "Harley Davidson" and "non-DIR" to "rice burners", this is a very familiar argument . . .
Harley Davidson (& their riders) turned around its negative reputation by a concentrated effort of community reach-out and establishment of annual events in which tolerance and friendliness is mandated. The PR campaign has not only promoted the Harley riding community as a whole, but promoted a stronger bond between all motorcyclists.
Any chance something like that could be done in the DIR community?
In response, I'll go back to two of my previous statements:Y'know, if one were to change "DIR" to "Harley Davidson" and "non-DIR" to "rice burners", this is a very familiar argument . . .

Some people are going to hear what they want to hear and interpret it the way they want to regardless of how clear the message is made to them.
