Nuno, I forgot to mention that MetroWest Dive Club meets at Burger King on Rt 128 almost every Saturday at 8am (10am in the "off season") to choose the day's dive site, which is usually on Cape Ann. They're a great group that will welcome an additional buddy.

I'll definitely look into that possiblity, thanks!

I'm not a member, but I've dove with them several times over the years. They occasionally go to dive sites that could be considered "novice", if that is a concern for you.

Not a concern at all, that's pretty much what I am, a novice, especially in local waters.

Since I dive Front Beach quite a bit, you could buddy up with me sometime. If conditions are real promising, I might go next weekend. PM me if you like.
Unfortunately, I usually don't make a commitment until the night before, since conditions have to be pretty good to make it worth the 250-mile round trip! :)
Tentative plans like that work fine for my typical solo diving, but I can understand a buddy needing more commitment than that. :D

I'd love to join you, really appreciate you offering! I'd need to rent tanks&weights so I'd need a little bit more advance notice than that, say, the afternoon before. I'll keep an eye on conditions and PM you closer to the weekend.

Hi. Welcome to New England diving! Before I switched to drysuit diving, I dove wet with a 7mm and a 3mm chicken vest well into Nov.--granted the dives weren't long ones, but it can be done :).

Check out NorthEast charters to see if they are still running trips to Isle of Shoals. We did a 3 tank charter with them in Sept. A lot of fun.

In addition to MWDC, Undersea divers in beverly also has a 'dive society', where a dive master or instructor takes out divers. They meet at the shop at 10am on Sundays (I think) and during the summer on Wed. Other shops may have similar programs. I started with that when I first moved here because i had only dove in central america where the water is a tad warmer. It was a great way to meet people, people I still dive with 5 years later.
Good luck!

If you have DIN fittings on your regulator, I can loan you some HP steel tanks for the dives.

I've got an extra weight belt, too.

Hey....last minute planning might work after all. :)

You've probably got the following helpful links.

NOAA marine forecast for Merrimack River to Watch Hill RI:

Topside weather (the Weather Channel):

Tides for Rockport (high at 7:03am Saturday, the 3rd):

Give me a shout closer to the weekend and I can probably do a little better than 12 hours notice. :D

Nuno, the marine forecast for this weekend makes Cape Ann a no-go for me, as even the protected areas will probably have lousy vis (less than 5'). See forecast below.

If I dive, it'll be in a local lake (water temps down to the low 40's, depths to 80'). If that's something that interests you, just give a holler, otherwise feel free to keep in touch with me for Cape Ann diving in the future.

The lake is about an hour and 15 minutes from your location.
