After reading many posts here and respecting the wealth of information here from experience, I would like to get your opinion on which reg to buy.
1-this reg is going on my pony so it doesnt have to be outstanding but sufficient is nice

2-I am tossed between Scubapro and an Apeks brand ( I have read only good about both).

3-both can be serviced locally without problem at the lds

pleas weigh in with your opinion, I don't care how biased, just let me have it!:D

my instructor always puts his best reg on his pony...he says if his reg is going to crap out at depth he doesnt want to depend on a crappier reg on his pony bottle to bail him out of trouble.

I aggree with Buff. In general it must be easy breathing and must be RELIABLE. I'd like to add that the pony reg may also be in a compact form. We dont want a hefty chunk of metal attached to a small tank!( streamlining purposes only :))

Go for what your familiar with as long as it serves your purpose. You dont need to get the very best here......unless you have the cash and want to spend so much on your reg...

I just bought a pony and put a TX40/DS4 from DiveInn on it. A DS4 is not the smallest first stage nor by any means the least expensive. The reason I selected it is that if my primary reg (TX100) failed I can move the octo and Cobra to the TX40/DS4 and continue to dive (less pony).

For warm weather or shallow diving where a don’t need the pony the TX40/DS4 is a spare.
