i have just got back from a dive/snorkel trip to thailand. after my second dive there i noticed that there was blood under my finger nails, my nose bled and my eyes were bloodshot, when i got back on the boat i was so dizzy i had to lie down. i also developed a bad headache. I did 2 other dives after that with the same results except
my teeth bled when i surfaced. all my dives were fairly shallow between 10 and 15 meters. i am being treated for high blood pressure, which is under control, i am taking atenalol 50mg. I went to a doctor in koh tao and they checked my BP and it was slightly above normal, "nothing be concerned about." I dived with a shorty wetsuit it wasnt too tight and i used my own mask which is a comfortable fit and was not on too tight. I spent the rest of the trip snorkeling and had no more problems. I think i should give up diving, it was quite scary. i am 47 years old and slightly overwight. and am quite fit.

Yeah, from that description (gums bleeding I suppose? teeth cannot), I would take a break until I got more information, too.

I don't guess you can call Divers Alert Network toll-free from there, but here is a link to DAN Medical Services , where you can review a lot of great info. At the bottom, you'll find the link for Can't find what you're looking for? Ask a DAN Medic where you can email your experiences and questions to a Medic there.

Or maybe one of our fine Medical contributors or Moderators can offer more here....?

Any other medications (Coumadin???)? Any history of inadequate clotting/ freebleeding problems? Liver problems? I would definately not dive until you figure out what the problem is. I hope that you do figure it out and can get back in the water again one day.

Do you take alot of ibuprofen or aspirin products? Get a physical. You don't want to have a serious problem underwater. You might also have something that can be easily corrected so that you can continue to enjoy diving.

Get the physical then get yourself in better physical shape. Start an exercise program and drop some pounds. Keep us posted, and good luck.
