Hey Uncle Pug
I just got a pioneer wing. when you use it without the STA, do you run the cambands throught the BP also? or do you just use the cams through the wing and then use the bolts and wingnuts to connect the wing to the BP? I havn't used this wing yet, and I'm trying to figure it out.

Babar

I believe that a STA-less rig has to have the cam bands slots, otherwise the wing will rip from the BP or soft pack!!!!

I use an STA now, but in looking at new plates/wings it appears the slots in the plates/wings of some brands don't match those in others. I have DR and that is all that is stocked anywhere in my area, so I can't check firsthand.

Can anyone tell me if this is so.

Thanks

On a singles rig, if your backplate has tank cam band slots and your single wing has slots, is there any reason (other than perhaps adding weight to the plate) why you would want to use a Single Tank Adapter ?

In this case, I believe you won't need the Single Tank Adapter. In fact, without the adapter for this setup, you can separate the wing and the BP+harness when transporting which made it less bulky. Don't know if that's the case for others but it is surely for me. ;)

Blueaway,

You are correct. There is no standard for the placement of the camband straps in either wings or plates. Good idea to check compatibility before purchase.

If anyone knows the exact barrel nuts to use to attach the wing to the bp..... please do post. I could do a search I spose..... but likely I'd end up with the wrong size bolt/barrel nuts.

Also curious if these barrel nuts can be used to attach a storage pack. I am losing my plastic nuts that attach my storage pack (Halcyon back pad).

The placement of the slots in the wing relative to the wing or STA bolts varies considerably between wing manufacturers. The spacing between them also varies a bit.

My plates are designed to accept all wing manufacturer's products. "Brand Name" plates generally only accept their own version of the wing.

I use the STA, but after looking, I see that I could easily go without it with my FredT BP and Oxycheq wing. Also, the slots in the Oxycheq wing are so long, I think they could fit just about any PB (if the holes work).

Bill Hoadleys (G.U.T.S.) also has his BP's machined to accept just about any wing/STA out there. I think OMS has differing bolt patterns even on some of their own setups. I believe for instance some of the back pacs/pads will not interchange between some of their own BP's.

I need to find me some of them barrel nuts. I am only using an STA on one of my rigs and the other I want to go with just the wing. But I like it being secured when I don't have my tank attached, as it can be kinda messy.
