for reference purposes I did not bite him, i tried to bite him, but understanding if i could not bite him in the proper area to take him for food, i was not going to add any injuryto the octo. as for why i was trying to take him in that manner, is because california does not allow me to spear him, so i have to take him by hand, which i was trying to do. If I could have taken him with a three prong well I would have had tako for dinner instead of a coke and a twinkie.

From what I gathered, in Hawaii they have to pound the taco a lot with a hammer to make it chewable. And I believe the boil it down after that.

It is not necessary to do all of that to make the meat tender. It doesn't hurt. Amazingly if you freeze it and then boil it, it makes it quite tender. Of course pounding it down also makes it tender, either way its good eating. I think smoking it naturally makes it tough, just like a lot of things that we smoke makes the meat a bit tougher. If you ever had smoked marlin its a bit tough, but as a steak filet, its pretty tender and flakey meat. anyways just my experiences that i thought i would share, mmmm makes me so hungry for some tako poke. You just don't get that here in Cali.
