If you want to go "redneck" there is a thread somewhere around here that mentions using lengths of garden hose as hose covers. ROFLMAO!

This is a serious problem for DIR divers!

Also for dive shops that bring a dozen or more students onto the LDS' dive boat, all dressed in the same wetsuit, BCD (especially if it has integrated weight pockets), tank, and fins. Had a lot of trouble sorting them out when I was assisting on the boat.

I mark all my gear with "Dr. Bill." Includes camcorder housing, wetsuit, BCD (in large bold white letters), fins, etc. Of course I'm easily distinguished because of my awesome trim and dive technique underwater. Oops, I meant to say awful.

Just looking for serious (ok, maybe some humorous) suggestions on how to make yourself almost instantly recognizable underwater.
I dive with many different people and would like to make it easy on them to find me. I am also a DMC and will be leading divers for money in the near future so I’d like to make it easy for them to spot me. I also think it would come in useful when diving with groups of divers that if I’m recognizable underwater as a DM then they could approach me underwater if they are having problems.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

I have a set of bright orange fins.. to this day (the fins are about 15 years old) I have never seen another pair this color on a dive.. I remeber when I saw them in a shop, and though how ungly, no one would buy these.. I got a great deal (the fins were ordered by mistake), and people have no problems pinpointing me..

Bright colored fins. Mine are neon green. Planning on putting my initials on them with paint marker. Also my 80's have open bottom boots. Put your initials or name on the bottom. Easily seen if someone is following you. They also have those new tank skins. Check on ebay for them.

Best ID I've ever seen on a DM was one in Cozumel working for a cattle boat operation. He put bright yellow happy faces on the underside of his black fins. Could pick him out literally from a crowd underwater. Won't dive with that operator again, but I'll always remember his fins - he was great.

Decals on my tank.....also helps in remembering where to strap the bc to tank. Knocking your head off the top of the tank is no fun.;)
